Hello all, I’m hoping to get some help from any of you tech savvy first gen gurus that may be lurking. As the title states, I’ve got an airbag light on that won’t shut off. When I jump the pins on the OBD2 port I get two codes to flash: 31 & 62.

I got quoted for a $100 fee by the local dealer just to scan/read the codes so I’ve bought a SRS reader off Amazon instead. Anyone had this particular issue before? I’ll post the solution once I’ve solved it but was hoping to maybe get some insight from anyone who’s seen this before.

The truck is a 2002 Tundra access cab 3.4l V6

For reference these are the links that I’ve been working off of to troubleshoot this issue.

Both of those codes make reference to the airbag sensor assembly, but I'm betting there's something in that squib circuit triggering both codes.

    Update: Problem Solved!

I replaced the Airbag module and now the codes are cleared and the airbag light is off.

    Hi Bob here;
I’m also having SRS MALFUNCTION problems.
I upgraded my Entune radio, now sometimes SRS LIGHT IS OUT more often it comes on.

How do I get a link to the entire DI pages; specifically pg DI-393?
    Thanks in advance..

Hey Bob, since this is the 1st Gen section and none of our FSM's discuss SRS in DI-393, do I assume correctly that this is referring to your 2018 ?
If so, I 'd suggest checking in the 2.5 Turd Gen section here at Tundras.
If by chance it's about a 1st Gen that you do have, what year ?

Sluggertron, what are you referring to as the air bag module?

Hasn't been here since 2021. But he's probably talking about the SRS ECU, I'd assume. Get a copy of the FSM where those pictures are pulled from. It's linked in the megathread.

Thanks Shifty, my SRS light and cruise light have been flashing for almost 2 years and for the life if me I can't figure it out. Also I don't think my obd II port is communicating either. Truck runs fine though.

Are you sure on the OBD port? Did you check the OBD fuse in the dash? If the OBD port isn't getting power, you can't read shit.

But beside that, did you ever do anything really stupid, like take your seat out, or disconnect the airbag without disconnecting the negative battery cable? SRS connectors are typically yellow, you should always think twice (and disco specifically the negative batt cable) when disconnecting any yellow connector on a vehicle, and SRS codes are special, cannot be cleared by standard code readers (sorry if you already know this, I don't want to assume shit)

Yes I have. Replaced passenger seat belt latch with one I scavenged from a yard. Then about a month ago I put 2 new ones oin from the dealer. Did not disconnect the battery.

First thing to do is get someone with an SRS-capable tool to clear the codes. See if they come back. It's always been my understanding SRS codes won't clear/resolve on their own for most (all?) of the vehicles I've owned, it's a permanent code that typically needs to be cleared by a dealer/pro mechanic.

I think when OP here replaced the SRS ECU/SRS module, it had no stored codes, thus didn't flash anymore. But I didn't fully read their issue/solution, so take with a grain of salt.
