It’s a real bitch. Nasty ass habit lol. I can say that now. My wife can now ride in the fj and enjoy it. It took many many cleanings to get it where it is. Changing the ac filter monthly was part of the solution.

Thank you....was also going to see if I could remove the vents....some of them snap in and out....to see if I could get into the ductwork a little.

I like the idea of the baking soda cups.....was going to suggest those febreeze things that attach to the vents when I'm done...even though I hate them

After owning a car that was smoked in I won't buy one again. The smell always finds ways to come back. On the hot days when the interior heats up is the worst.

Yup. Just give the cups a shake every day or so to refresh the top layer. I normally place one in every cupholder or door.

I saw you referencing them not being good in the detailer thread. I must have missed what happened. Do you have a link to the post that explains your experience?

Just want to give a big thanks to my man @Ckatz53 for sharing is knowledge with me on a personal project I have been working on. He is always so willing to help give advice and a man that pays it forward. I recently got a new to me seat cushion for my 2007 fj that is very much in need of repair. The cushion came out of a FJ with 140k on it so it came a little dirty but mostly in great shape just dirty. I asked Cody for some advice on cleaning it up before installing. The advice he gave me was detailed and effective the cushion cleaned up very well and it was very easy to do.

    Thanks man. :fistbump:

Hopefully yall don't mind me jumping im with a few questions. I have the Bissell Spot Clean pro. All I used was some Chemical Guys (Christmas gift kit) carpet stain remover and a heavy hand brush to agitate then used the Bissell 4x mixture and cleaned as much as I could at least to the point where the vac was mostly sucking clear moisture out.

After treatment it is definitely better but I can still see stains. Am I too far gone since I've already hit it with the Bissell? Or can I go back and try an oxygenated approach with peroxide and oxygen clean or something? I'm not too upset, it's going to be a track car, but I'm still OCD about it.

You can give it a try, just be careful with peroxide as it can pull dye out of carpet. Short of a hot water Mytee extractor, some stains are just too set in to remove and need to be actually dyed.

Appreciate the quick reply. Doesn't necessarily seem like it's going to be beneficial to take it any further, especially for a track car. Thank you for the help.

Another option...although time consuming....would be to remove the carpets and pressure wash them. Take a look at some of MAD detailing's YouTube videos and see some of the saves that guy makes....pretty impressive

I've always wanted to try this but the amount I'd charge someone to completely disassemble their interior would be absurd lol. Not worth it for either of us. I'm a few months out from gutting the track car's interior and welding in a cage, when that happens I'll test it on the carpet before I toss it just for shits and giggles.

I was going to toss the floor mats as they were disgusting and the whole its a track car thing... but instead figured id stop off at a DIY carwash and blast them with the high pressure soap and then the high pressure water. Worked bad ass! Came back and hit them with the Bissell Spot Clean and managed to still pull out some black water. Still wouldnt say that they came out spotless but they are definitely going back into the car. Wish I would've got better before pictures.

Going to do this to my truck soon. Question is what do I do with the backing pad that's attached to the carpet? Leave it and pressure wash, tear it off and put new padding down?

I would say to leave it attached....I'm doubtful you could completely separate them....that's the path I would take

    Question

what is the best way to get fluids/smells, if any, out of heat/ventilated perforated seats. I’m asking because my wife gave birth in my front seat and want to be 100% sure there is no remaining surprises when it gets into the 90s and 100s in a few weeks! We had a towel down which I believe absorbed 90% of it all but can never be too sure

Oh man. Well...congrats lol. No idea/experience with this one, but if it were me I would shoot steam down into the perforations and run a wet vac thoroughly to suck everything up. If anything got down in there it's likely dry by now. You'll want to "liquify?" (lol) whatever is down in there and vacuum it up thoroughly. Just what I would do at least. If no steam, shoot some diluted apc and dawn mixture down in there and vacuum up. Don't overly saturate but enough to hopefully break anything up.

    Congrats again!

Are there any interior sprays that helps deflect dust?
What are your thoughts on this?
    Griot's Garage 11104 Interior Cleaner 35 oz https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00J5CVOZY

Also, what is your opinion on blowing out the interior first then vacuuming? (My vehicle stays clean; just trying to think of ways to collect the random crap that may blow onto the dash. I know I can use my shopvac to hit it but want to minimize the chance of any scratching).

You recommended Meguiars, but any specific one just to keep dust out, or stick with something else?

Honestly nothing I've found is very antistatic. Dust will accumulate regardless...especially if you're like me and ride around windows down 95% of the time. Meg's interior is good for a quick wipe down and doesn't leave anything sticky or shiny. Just leave a small bottle and microfiber in the car and hit it every once in a while. I do it every couple months.

Never used it but it's a CG product so take what you want from that comment lol. We typically Aerospace everything and touch up with Meg's if we see it back early enough.

I've used P&S Express interior detailer, cut to 1:1 with distilled water. Decent job for quick wipe downs

That may be the same as this. But this is all I get. 1 gallon for volume. @briarpatch 's suggestion is all I ever see on detail pages so it's gotta be good. No personal experience tho.

Late to the party but I have a few of questions I don't see addressed generally, 1. If detailing a pick up to what level of detail do you take the bed to? Just a simple wash out or do you go all out with wax or some other product? and 2. Do you typically detail the engine bay with every detail or is that a once/twice a year thing?Lastly I don't ever see anyone clean the headliner. How is that addressed? I realize that as an owner I can do whatever I want but wondering what everyone does. This is a great thread.

    1. APC and a boat brush with a pressure washer. I've never put anything as a protectant on a bedliner so that's a good question.

    2. Engine bay is as needed/requested and is subjective.

    3. APC diluted 50:1 on a rag will get 95% of things off the headliner. Carpet cleaner (my homemade stuff) takes care of more aggreasive staining. Don't oversaturate and just spot clean as necessary. Headliner is very easy to clean with those methods due to what they're made of so it's a quick wipedown.

I picked up a Bissel spot pro and used it yesterday. I’ll use the whole clean hot water side and will barely fill 1/4 of the dirty container. Wondering if this is a typical exchange? I’m really not impressed with the suction on this extractor, and many reviews have implied it has great suction.
I am impressed with the amount of dirt and grime that does fill the container
