Doing a little research and I have a question. For those of you who conceal carry, are you familiar with the United States Concealed Carry Association (USCCA)? If you're familiar with them, are you a member? If you're not a member and you're familiar, then why aren't you a member?

Ugh. More on the to do list.

    1. Carry more regularly.
    2. Get a permit for more states.
    3. Research into stuff like this and insurance for legal issues after a justified shoot.
    4. Pray to never ever NEED any of the above.

I CCW but am not a member. Never thought it would be necessary to get CCW insurance.

One would hope it's not necessary, but in the current climate and the litigious nature of society.... An innocent person goes broke proving their innocence, because "Innocent until proven guilty" only applies to the rich, well connected, and/or corrupt. The everyday citizen is viewed as a way to pad the conviction stats by most DAs.

CCW, and am a member of US Law Shield; was a member of USCCA. Short-term it was simply a monetary thing; but I had no issues with USCCA at all. :)

No, but I am a member of U.S. Law Shield......whether you carry or not, even if you just have a single firearm in your home, I would strongly encourage anyone to sign up for U.S. Law Shield or something similar. If you even pull your firearm out and never fire a shot....there is a strong possibility you are going to court either because of a criminal charge and/ or civil law suit even if you were totally justified and within the law. Protect yourselves and never think "that won't happen to me..."

If you are carrying and are not a member USCCA or U.S. Law Shield you are gambling with your future....protect yourself and your family by 1) Lawfully carrying 2) Having some sort of membership or insurance to protect you from being sued or charged

(Not 100% but think I’ve got this right)

In Washington state at least, they’ve already ruled that you cannot carry insurance that protects you when you’ve committed an act suspected to be illegal, whether in criminal or civil court. Therefore, if you’re guilty then there’s no way a company can reimburse for costs incurred. I think they imply the insurance company is then connected to illegal activity.

I carry, concealed, all day every day. Hit 28 states over Dec/Jan, and was still CCW everywhere I went regardless of rules. Sadly, that’s what it takes to really be protected sometimes. Case in point, the day we ended up in DC was January 6th. Glad to have it when I have it. You know the old saying, which I’ll butcher like the laws I pretended to know about above: I’d rather be judged by 12 then carried by 6.

I welcome other ideas and definitely welcome someone correcting whatever erroneous info I laid out.

Disclaimer added!: I just ended up in DC on the 6th, I wasn’t meeting friends! After re-reading I thought I should add this.

Totally get it. I remember how excited I was to finally get my first gun, day after day when researching, ordering, waiting for it to arrive. Then the day it arrived everything was different. There was this incredible weight to owning this thing. You never want to shoot someone, although sadly may have to. And then there’s the judicial repercussions. As soon as it was in my possession, I realized that owning a gun in and of itself is great protection and a huge burden. Glad to carry, everywhere I go, but hate that I have to.

I carry nearly all the time. Am not a member. But I have a local CCW attorney on speed dial in my phone IF (god forbid) I ever am fearing for my life or the life of a family member and have to protect myself or them.

I enjoy shooting as a hobby/for fun, I occasionally hunt, and living outside city limits I have used them for pest control. I feel no burden in gun ownership, but I am fully aware of the reality that having to use a firearm for self defense is a life altering event. Even if it's a clear case of self defense and you somehow dodge the hassle of investigation, potential legal costs... taking a life is something that will have an impact. I hope to never have first hand experience as I've seen the struggles that decision brings.

Yeah, it's worth checking out because you have a network of legal folks to assist in the event you ever get in an altercation. But, there's also a lot of great content on self defense education, training, etc. Definitely worth a look. Nobody buys car insurance with the hopes they get to use it one day. Just like nobody buys a gun hoping they have to defend themselves one day, but it happens. Moreso now than ever. You can check 'em out at https://www.usconcealedcarry.com/.

I am a member and I do not have CCW...well not yet anyway...the reason to be a member is JUST IN CASE something happens...if you shoot someone for any reason they will be your attorney and can speak for you without you going to jail when you were in the right. CYA Brother

CCW Safe is the only way to go IMO. Well documented history of defending and winning. They pay up front for the bail/bond and forward without any caps on criminal defense cases, others mostly reimburse. Started by Ex LEO and ex mlitary. The monthly fee for licensed carriers is only 16.00. You pay a lot for the USCCA cost of advertisement.

I am getting pretty close to receiving my CCW permit and started thinking about this. The USCCA option seems overpriced, when compared to US Law and CCW safe. So far it looks like US Law and CCW Safe are the way to go, but based on reviews and some light research, CCW Safe looks like the winner with its unlimited coverage. Besides the cost, is there any real reason not to have this insurance?

    Agreed,

Check out Firearms Legal Protection - they cover Bail/bond up to $250k -- not all of the companies have equal coverage - some "may" seek reimbursement should you not prevail in your legal battle..

In an ever growing violent criminal society, it just makes “sense” to have coverage as it does with any insurance. As to the better option, that is conditional upon each user. USCCA offers a galore of perks that others do not. That doesn’t make it any better or worse than any others. I’m not that familiar with the other options, but have heard good things about them.

I'm a member and CCW. I'm also an attorney but this is not my specialty. I found the comparison chart online of all the various liability insurance products for CCW, and comparing apples to oranges, USCCA had the best coverage. This is not a legal opinion, just looking at the things that mattered most to me. USCCA provided the highest amount of criminal defense attorney fees, highest civil damage coverage (defense costs inclusive though, but still higher than the others) including expert witnesses, payout up front, 24/7 hotline, you choose the attorney, and other features.

Other policies provides some of these features, but not all of them. Closest IMO was NRA Carry Guard. $1m in civil damages indemnity, but expert fees not covered. Payout was reimbursed versus upfront and bail not covered. FWIW, USCCA was only $2k in bail coverage. So unless your bail is $20k or less, under USCCA, you're paying the balance. The NRA policy cost a little more too.

My main criteria were civil damages coverage, attorney options, 24/7 hotline to call with questions, criminal defense costs, and bail. You get insurance to avoid paying out of pocket. God forbid you're prosecuted or sued, what parts of the process will cost you? 1) bail; 2) attorney retention for the criminal aspect and your defense; 3) civil suit and hiring a defense attorney to represent you; 4) expert witness to support your side; 5) payment of damages to the family if you lose; and 6) recovery of your gun (if able). USCCA checks all these boxes with what I believe to be the best coverage, but do your own due diligence and get what's right for you.

Just my personal thoughts and not a legal opinion here on coverage. For those who think it's too expensive, USCCA is (silver tier I think) is $300/year. In 20 years, that's $6k. If I use my gun even one time, ONCE, that's probably how much you're paying just for bail, if you're lucky....
