Gearing up for Whitetail season and looking to make some upgrades to my clothing system. I'm relatively new to hunting and have been using cotton layers and walmart camo outer layers along with muck boots. It's not comfortable and i'm usually cold so i'm looking to upgrade to some merino wool base layers and nicer outer layers.

I'm on the east coast so no long backcountry excursions. I hunt from stands so i'm often sitting for long periods in sub 30 degree weather so cold weather gear is ideal.

Recommendations for quality but relatively inexpensive gear systems would be great. I can't quite justify something top tier like Sitka or First Lite for my needs.

    Thanks guys!

Hit up a Cabela's or BassPro, they will have what you need and not be too expensive.

Here in eastern Ohio, you can stay warm and dry easily. All you need to do is just drive around. They run into you on any road around here. No need for camo clothing, and they have no special preference for color of vehicle or size. Went on a road trip earlier today and saw no less than about two dozen fresh hits along the roads!!
    Your mileage may vary!!

The only reason you need camo is because massive marketing campaigns tell you that you do. Sitka and First Lite are overseas manufactured companies trying to make you feel inferior unless you have their gear.

Instagram and Facebook are also plastered with influencers that get free product to also tell you that you suck.

    Proof is in the pictures.

Older thread now that the season is closer to the end, but funny. My granddad use to hunt wearing a navy blue mechanics jump suit, smoking a cigar and peeling an orange. Deer would literally run him over in the woods.

With that said, I’ve got stuff from Cabelas, bass pro, kuiu, Sitka, and many others. I look for function of the clothing more so than the camo. Current setup:

    Under armor long underwear
Several options for next layer, depending on temps. Sometimes it’s just jeans and a flannel shirt.
My outer pants and jacket are Browning Hells Canyon. - this stuff holds up to the briars and prickers in thickets - it’s also wind/water proof/resistant so I really like it.
When its really cold, I’ve got an old set of Walls camo overalls I put on and a Cabelas heavy jacket.
Socks - I use Cabelas brand merino, darn tough, or Kuiu.

Typically, I’m always wearing more than one camo pattern since I mix and match my gear. Hasn’t impacted my success yet.

Hope everyone’s having good luck this season!

You only need camo when you're hunting the most dangerous animal.
Deer don't care what you're wearing.

A lot of traditional Bowhunters like to wear woods color wool clothing. Wool is supposed to keep you warm even when it’s wet. I haven’t tried the wet wool yet, but I do like wearing wool when hunting. It’s also quiet too. I also wear other brands too.

I made the pistol from a kit years ago. It’s a 58 cal trade pistol. It has a smooth bore barrel about 10” long. It goes well with my 58 cal trade gun. 662854BE-9399-4A67-96B3-74A6E66F3D33.jpgF726BB38-2E91-4FAF-BE09-CE0BAD1B5690.jpg

Thanks for the comments. Flintlocks are fun to shoot. I can’t hit the broadside of a barn from the inside with this pistol. :(

I wear this when it gets cold. Got the pants at Bass Pro and jacket at a hardware near me. I dress in layers to keep warm. This pic is during after Christmas flintlock season in Pa. 89A738BB-11B7-4C1E-A314-B362CC605043.jpg
