Rail Dust??

I was washing my truck a weekend ago, and noticed many spots that wouldn't wash off, or buff off.

A friend of mine who was in auto body tells me its something called rail dust? And is the result of when the vehicles are shipped on trains across the country, little sparks of metal from the rails flying up and embedding in the paint.

He tells me given the truck is just over a year old that the warranty should cover this and to take it to the dealer.

He seems to think its pretty bad as its all over the entire sides of the truck- which is a white 2016 crewmax.

Has anyone else found this on their truck or taken it to a dealer before??

 

Rail dust, industrial fallout, paint contamination from brake dust.. it happens. Try Carpro Iron X, and see if it comes out. It should if its on the outside of the clear coat. If its under the clear coat, the dealer MIGHT accept it back. Most dealerships won't take anything back unless its a clear paint defect or rusting through.

 

My 04 GTO was subject to this. Meguiars clay bar did the trick. Followed that up with 4 coats of Zaino. That car was a red mirror.

The Iron X that I used on my other truck cleaned it up nicely. But since it comes back yearly leads me to believe it's the road brine. You should see the 2013 white work van I drive that has never been touched. It's covered with brown acne.

I had this on my white 2010 as soon as I brought it home I saw it all.
