The local Costco's to me in the Vancouver WA area have been getting more disappointing. They hardly carry anymore good beers. They used to have a Kirkland sampler and I haven't seen it for months. So I tried something else, Kona Brewing. There were some good samplers in it. Then they quit carrying it. I then tried a Pelican Brewing sampler and it was really good. That's gone too. The only "exotic" beer they have now is Corona and the usual Coors and Bud. Costco has gone down hill with everything else it seems as well.
A case of good beer anywhere else is near $30 and up. I can't justify spending that much when Costco should have good supplies for the cost of the membership fees. There's a Trader Joe's about 40 minutes away but it's always too crowded. I need my beer but Bud and Coors doesn't cut it. Corona neither.
I've complained to Costco but the give some BS excuse that's what the customers want. I'm a customer too!

That sucks. The Sam’s Club near me has some decent local craft beer samplers. But then again, the big warehouse clubs aren’t my first choice for finding good beer!

I bought a 24 pack of Modelo cans at Costco today. In their variety packs, there's always one beer that sucks.

And bought some ribeyes for dinner tomorrow.

I need to buy my craft style beer at a reasonable price. I drink quite a bit of it during the summer. That's why I resorted to Costco. There aren't any Sam's Clubs within 100 miles of me or I would have dumped Costco long time ago. I had both when I lived in CA within a few minutes of each other. I went to Sam's most of the time. We have a bunch of Walmarts but they are more expensive than the supermarkets for beer.
There aren't any locally owned liquor stores nearby.

I have a friend of mine that rides bicycles with a group of fellas once in awhile. Chad has the fellas stopping at his house after the event to share a beer.
His limit is fifty cents a can ~ this limits the quality of the product but also limits the quantity of beer they drink.
I suspect Chad's 'go to' place for beer is Costco as well . . .

Just searched your town, what about 1st choice liquor? Looks like a small locally owned liquor store to me unless I'm missing something.

That sucks. My local Costco (SoCal) has a TON of great beer still. Stone, ballast point, pizza port, St Archer… they even have a decent Kirkland session ipa right now.

1st choice was nothing special and it's been closed for a while from the pandemic. I'm not sure if they reopened but I haven't paid much attention since their main focus was liquor.

That was my favorite! They haven't had any Kirkland here for most of this year.

I never go to the big box stores for good beer. Usually smaller stores have the best selection, or liquor stores.
My choices for beer hunting consists of Calandro’s (small mom and pop store with a few stores around the greater BR area), Rouses (not sure of their “big box” status, but still has a somewhat good selection - however it never changes) and this liquor store that opened up a couple of years ago that isn’t in the ghetto LOL

It is not just beer. Costco has reduced the variety of many products since the pandemic.

For example, they use to have Skim, 1%, 2% and Whole Milk in the double gallon box. Now they just offer 2% and Whole. They seem to offer less cuts of beef as well..but not a big deal for us as we have pretty much stopped eating beef. They use to sell 3 types of eggs. Now just two. Same with some bakery items we use to buy...just don't offer them anymore.

I guess they need to free up aisle space for toilet paper, paper towels, water and lysol products.

Supply chains have been effected across the board. It’s not going to get better anytime soon.

That's what it was like in Washington up until a few years ago. As far as I know there's still no such thing as a local liquor store in Oregon.
Funny story, 30+ years ago I was in Canada, BC for the first time. I walked around and around for about a half hour in a Safeway looking for beer. The store was the size of a Costco. I finally broke down and asked a store employee where the beer was. She obviously knew I was an outsider and laughingly told me beer was sold at a province owned store. I don't remember what she called it. I bought a box of Molsen or LaBatts.

Beer at Costco. I could only dream…

In the last few years, wine has become available in a select few grocery stores here, but any other adult beverage is still only sold at gubbmint owned stores or private liquor stores that sell just booze and ice.

‘Cause you know, we can’t be trusted to buy beer, steak, and TP at the same time / place. Or something.

Yessir! I’m all prepped up. Got my beer, plenty of ice, food, etc. shouldn’t be too bad. Now if I was in New Orleans, I’d be getting outta dodge!

just got back from Costco. In addition to the above, they also had Sierra Nevada, Lagunitas and Kona. No St Archer this time though.

Supply chain issues. Local beer distributor here is constantly out of major brands. Corona has been out for months for example….
