We were just there and paddled the north fork of the flathead from the polebridge put in to the the confluence of the middle fork. The polebridge entrance to glacier is closed as is the road to kintla and Bowman. Good luck getting into glacier in a vehicle it's better on foot or by raft anyway. Water level was pretty low when we were there but I supd the middle fork and north fork no problem.

Just drive north fork road stop at polebridge mercantile for huckleberry bear claws and eat lunch at home ranch bottoms on the way back. Support local business in the flat head and don't act like a tourist. Stop by sacred waters brewing and buy some flys at Larry's in cfalls. Also theres a rodeo every Thursday behind the blue moon. Have fun in the flathead but tell your friends back home it sucks.

I'm going to Glacier NP next week and have been following this thread for ideas. I've got some questions specifically to travel trailers and hopefully its ok to ask them in this thread. If not, let me know and I can start another thread.

I'll be staying in Fishcreek campground for the week and rented a travel trailer to try out. Since the campsites have no hookups, I'm wondering if I can fill the trailer water tank at the campground or do i need to fill it before entering the park. If I need to fill it before entering the park, does anyone know the closest location near the entrance? Trying not to haul all the extra water weight for too long a distance if possible. The trailer I'm renting is GVWR 6800 lbs, hitch 425 lbs with a 60 gallon tank.

Also, i'll be coming from the west on I90 and google maps is saying the best route is through 135 to 28 on the westside of Flathead lake. Is that a good route for towing a trailer or should I go on the east side of Flathead lake?

    Thanks

The only part of your post I can sort of answer, when we were at Glacier (at our hotel actually), we chatted with a truck driver who stated that taking 93 to I-90 was his route of choice for the area; honestly I can't advise any more about it, when we left Whitefish, we went down to Kalispell and took 2 to 95 through Idaho.

As far as getting into the park, we had absolutely no problems with lines or traffic (except finding parking at Logan Pass VC took about 10 minutes). We entered the GTTSR from the St Mary side at around 8am, and exited in West Glacier around 3:30pm on a Monday. Most of the pull offs had some amount of parking, although it got notably heavier West of Logan Pass. The views and peacefulness on the East side of the park were definitely better IMO

Do not go to the east side of the lake. Part of it is closed due to fire activity (unless you're a resident with special plates) and is also a worse road. 28 through hot springs is a decent road, but can get very windy. 93 from Missoula to Kalispell is effortless, but longer if coming from the west.

Just got back last Saturday. What an amazing place. We stayed entire week at West Glacier Campground, which is about 1 mile from the West Glacier entrance. Lots of good info about park usage. Passes are not required if you enter before 0600, and since you have to go in by 0500 in order to get parking, why bother with passes....

Logan Pass parking lot was just about full by 0600. We got there at 0515 and it was 20 percent full. We basically got up super early, got into the park, to the parking areas, and went to sleep in my truck for an hour or two. We took our cooler and food with us in my truck, made bfast on my tailgate, then went out on our hikes. No big deal. Most of the popular trail heads had bathrooms, some with pit toilets. Regardless, getting in before 0600 and getting parking at trail heads was key.

Thank you for the tips. 93 would add a little more time to the journey. I did more digging and i think it should be ok to do 135 to 28 as long as the weather is good. The forecast does say rain on sunday but we'll check again when we're closer. We are going to stop in kalispell to load up on supplies anyway so we'll stay west of the lake.

So I apologize for not posting pics sooner. My trip with my daughter was last August, six days camping just outside W Glacier gate. Had a great time and the key was getting up early and getting inside the gate before 0530. Technically 0600, but if you cut it too close, line was way too long. Had a blast

There really are no words to describe the beauty of Glacier. If you ever get the chance to go back, don't underestimate the beauty of East Glacier as well. Below is a pic from Helen Lake which you need a backcounty permit to camp in order to get there. Had the place to ourselves for 4-5 hours easily.

This is an old thread but may as well revive it. The wife and I are making our plans for our trip to Glacier. We travel with a dog so there will be little to no trail hiking for us. But we are looking forward to it! Hoping to get a moose pic!

Be sure to check into when the driving passes will be released. Last year all of August was released on April 1st. We like to stay in East Glacier, gives you better access to some of some of the areas.

No vehicles over 21 feet are allowed in the park... luckily, my truck measures 20' 8 1/4" stem to stern...
We have a hotel in White Fish for 5 full days. New camera and spotting scope has been ordered. We got some good pics in Yellowstone with our Iphones, but I really want to get some long range shots. My wife has been turning our pictures into canvas prints for the last few trips and its nice to have all the memories on the walls to see.

I’ll be getting married mid-May and we are planning our honeymoon trip for the last week of June-first week of July. Looking in here for some advice and will be taking notes. We’re driving from PA and will be stopping in The Badlands and some other spots on the way out. Planning Glacier-Yellowstone-Grand Teton. We have friends and family in Cooke City, Bozeman, and Missoula. We’re thinking of camping around glacier at least a couple night. Going to have a Softtopper and sleep in the bed. Aside from traveling and camping I. The truck this will all be new to me. Furthest west I’ve been is around Colorado Springs (Vegas doesn’t count)

You may want to see if tickets are still available for "Going to the Sun Road" in Glacier. They only give out 400 per day and they go in less than a minute. You can reserve them for 2 bucks 6 months before your trip. July 8th is currently open with only 18 tickets left as of this posting. July 9th will open tomorrow at 8 am local time in Glacier. You have to set up an account with Recreation.gov before trying to buy a day pass.

Wasn’t aware of that. Shit! Isn’t there something about being there early enough in the day to go without one?

    IMG_0891.png
Or you don’t need one if you’re using the St. Mary entrance

I also believe that if you are camping in the park you should be able to get in.
My wife is not the camping type... so we both set up accounts and were able to get tickets for the days we will be there.
