:( Thanks for confirming. At least I didn't pop the covers on yet. Removing those without breaking a tab was the hardest part

He has the correct speakers installed, the other speakers did not have a grill and they were bigger making them not fit correctly....the “bigger” speakers without the grill and the ones he has installed have the exact same specifications just made to fit

post 80 is the WRONG speakers

If they sound good and there are no issues, I say keep them.

That is a good point. As I was expecting the 3.5 when I bought mine.

These are what I was expecting to get and I received the smaller ones.
Personally not satisfied with the smaller ones I was sent. Spoke with James and he suggested bypassing the crossover. I am going to try that and see what happens.
    Happy with everything else though.

So...I'm not trying to be a pill...just want to understand what I'll be getting and what's going on. The 2.75's were substituted for the 3.5's because the 3.5's didn't fit. With Jame's suggestion to try bypassing the crossover...anyone care to explain how to do that?

The crossover is included in the package James sends. It is a little 'tube' that is wired in with the plug-n-play harness.

The printed specs may seem the same, but there is a big difference in the area of a 2.75 disc and a 3.5 disc. The larger disc has ~50% more surface area to move air. The difference will be even more noticeable when the crossover is removed, as the 'same' specs don't apply any longer. The 800hz lower limit on both is most likely due to the high pass filter installed (crossover). I'm not sure I'll return mine - I'll keep them until I find something better - but I'm certainly disappointed with the substitution.

r8rs4lf, did you have to do some trimming to make them fit? The 3.5 Infinity's that were in last year's package mostly fit. 1 hole needed to be added for the mounting screws.

What is really confusing to me is James stated in post #1

"we are using kenwood excelon 3.5 that are made to go in the tundra dash. They are direct bolt in and i like them alot . They actually sound better than some speakers we have used that cost 4 times as much. and they have a 2 year warranty ."

That statement implies to me that he listened to the speakers in a Tundra, and like how they sounded. How do they not fit?

I did have to trim some of the dash. On the driver side I was able to get both bolts in and the passenger side I could not get one bolt in. I ended up using a zip tie which I'm sure the sun will weaken eventually. Both sides did not fit well. They fit good enough to get the grill to sit flat, that's about it.

As for the sound, everyone needs to realize that just replacing speakers and doing nothing else will net minimal results. I would say the highs in the dash sound better and crisper. That's about it! That's the reason why I have not jumped on the GB for the doors. I don't think it will make much of a difference without adding an aftermarket amp to power them and I don't want to get into all that work. I think I would benefit more by getting a better LOC for my JL sub and amp.

Thanks for the clarification. Did you install the capacitor? Your larger speakers would benefit by removing it. There are a lot of mids being filtered out below 800hz

I installed them the way they came. As for the mids being filtered out, I can't miss something I never heard.

I pulled the speakers and removed the capacitors. There is an improvement in the midrange frequencies. I think about as good as we can expect from a small full-range speaker.

I have everything installed except the Rt/Lt dash speakers - still waiting for the JBL harnesses. Also have Jame's single 10" sub all running off the stock amp/headunit. I will of course need an amp and I knew that going into this and I currently have an email into James looking at options.

I thought I'd share my review of this system using the stock amp. Some songs sound awesome, big and bright highs, lots of sound being produced including bass and midrange frequencies, a big improvement! Other songs sound tiny and a million miles away. This effect is independent of source. Example, I was listening to Sirius and Beastie Boys Sabotage came on and I thought this should sound good - it sounded horrible - small, tiny, no bass, no mid-bass, as if only the tweeters were playing (I confirmed there was sound coming from all speakers). The next song was Alanis Morrsette - Ironic and it sounded awesome - tons of volume, tons of sound, I could feel the bass (to what is essentially a bass-less song). Tool universally sounds horrible with no bass/mids. Dr. Dre sounds great and the bass shakes the rearview mirror. I have a song "Bassgasm" that sounds absolutely rocking from a bass/mids POV.

My guess is the stock JBL amp is under powering everything and that's leading to lots of inconsistencies in sound? Highs always sound great but it's the bass and mid-range frequencies that seem to randomly show up or dropout depending on song.

Just so I know this is normal. I also notices the front door woofers and rear door woofers behave very differently as far as the frequencies they play. The front door woofers only play low frequencies and often they seem like they are barely on and barely making any noise and the noise they do make is very muddled. I assume this is because they work with the dash speakers which are supposed to play the mids. The rear door woofers plays both low and mid-frequencies with things like guitar and voices being played through this speaker which again I assume is setup this way because the rear only has an additional tweeter? Seems like the front would sound better is the front door woofer behaved more like the rear door woofer?

    Correct dash speaker setup.

Wire management and rattle prevention with some quiet tape. Might be a little overboard but whatevs. I only wanna do it once lol

Ordered Saturday evening, arrived today (Wednesday). Hopefully I can get them installed today or tomorrow, but I didn't plan ahead and haven't ordered any sound deadener. Oh well, I won't have time to install speakers and cover the doors anyway, guess the panels will be coming off again.

I am interested. I want to order, but do not want to do it my self, I want the complete audio sound upgrade package for my 2016 Limited.
How can you make this happen for me?
    I live in Texas.

Drive to GA? There's nothing magical about the what he sells or does. I've seen installers baulk at installing customer-supplied equipment or they jack up the installation fee.
