My truck has the Toyota security system. I accidently found out that if I lock the truck with the key fob and unlock it with the key it sets off the alarm. WTF. So I tried putting the key in the ignition and starting truck. No go! So my question is if I don't have my key fob handy or the battery in it died how do I get in my truck without waking up the neighborhood?

First things first, check out the piddif in this reply: https://www.tundras.com/threads/need-help-disabling-automatic-door-locks.33158/#post-1931311

Download a copy. Save it to your computer. Send to friends. Email to yourself so you always have a copy. It tells you everything you need to know about programming your system to do the things you want it to do - like locking (or not locking) your doors when you start 'er up, or to automatically arm the alarm when you leave (off by default, IIRC). I can't remember if it lets you turn off the auto-alarm thing when unlocking the doors or not. You can take a peek. But if nothing else, you can always buy a remote off eBay and use the manual to program it so you don't always need to have a key with you.

I need the key fob shell. The guys still work and are fine, but I'd lose it if its not on my Keychain which it isn't.

They don't make an AJT case for the early key fobs like they do for the later key fob.

Huh. Another piece of info I didn't know. Earlier years use a different case?

Can you buy a generic off A-Zon and just swap your guts into it?

Thanks Shifty for the helpful reply and the pdf. I'll definitely read through that when I get a chance. Looks very useful.

I ordered one of these for my Camry. I don't remember where from. Its lasted at least a few years of being on my key ring most the time. I ended up using that case on the truck when I got it recently cause the remote was busted. Need to order another case before winter for the Camry since it's my winter beater. Love having the remote though but I also lock my truck any time I'm not in it.

Yeah my GF did this when she drove my truck a while back after I told her to unlock with the remote.

When lock/unlock with the remote you arm/disarm the security system. When you lock/unlock with the key you don't arm/disarm. Seems if you dont want to worry about the alarm you'll have to do without the remote.

Just follow the programming instructions for the RS300 and put the security system into "valet mode". This disables the alarm outright while still allowing for keyless entry.
