Welp. The long travel insanity teardown has begun. Just got the green light from the local diff shop that my other front diff with 4:88's is good to go. Only the steering rack bushings to replace before reassembly. Anyone want some OE parts...?

Just got my front diff back with 4:88's cleaned up and new seals. Also Fab shop welded on the spindle gussets and was able to press off the lower spindle brackets from the ball joints.

Who would've thunk most of a Tundra front end would fit in the trunk of a BMW coupe. Not me, not till today.

Ran into a hurdle, one of the CV axles rebuilt with the extended shafts most likely has a bearing problem. Seizes up when the Axle shaft nut is tightened. This is my conclusion after swapping in 3 different bearing and swapping the shafts side to side.

Phoenix Rack and Axle is the only place in the state that rebuilds CV axles and they dont perform service on the weekends :( Gonna try to make the drive to Phoenix this coming week. Hopefully they can get it resolved quickly.

In the meantime, I made brackets to mount the King remote resi's. Painted em silver to match the resi's o_O Inserted clinch nuts into factory frame holes to mount the brackets.

After several bouts and weeks dealing with CV axles, I'm leaving some info here for others in hopes this save somebody headaches down the road.

I received 3 sets of wheel seals from Rockauto. The set I originally used has a thicker flange. That thicker flange was causing the drivers side axle to bind as soon as the axle nut was tightened down ever so slightly. This only happened with that one axle. Everything operates like it should after replacing with wheel seals that have the thinner flange. Should've saved the factory ones I took out to compare instead of just trusting whatever Rockauto sent me.

When the CV axles were rebuilt, there was some grease under the boots. Plus the band clamps were not fully tightened down. Made a freaking mess first time I drove the truck. Ended up buying band clamps, crimping tool, and grease from Amazon to fix myself. Used some 3M VHB double sided adhesive on the outboard side of the boots to make sure they seal and prevent them from slipping off. Working good so far.

Now that the truck is back in action. Onto better things. Just received rear SS brake lines to match the fronts. Rears are 3" longer. Also ordered the lines that run into the calipers.

Put on the RCI skids I got for Christmas. Really impressed with the quality. Install wasnt that bad once I had plan to solo install. Thinking I might get some RCI sliders to match...

Got my sliders in from RCI. Did a heavy Raptor liner texture on em. Really impressed by RCI's quality. These thing are STOUT!

After a lot of back and fourth regarding size and tires. Finally got some bigger meats!

Just got my truck back from Zona Motorsports. They made some custom shock mounts to go along with my Deavers. Cycled the suspension to ensure there will be no binding. 15" of travel with spring over. Rides great and soaks up bumps like a champ. Oh - and they got me new Kings for the rear in a couple days even though King is quoting 44 weeks.

I do not know the angle. If you're interested, I'd contact the owner Bobby and talk to him. For anyone interested, it should be far less than I paid because all the R&D is done. The top mount is bolt in and they said they will offer it as a kit.

I chose Zona for several reasons:
    • Came highly recommended by local guys that all play hard in the dirt and sand
    • Zona has experience and a reputation. They had LT kits for Chevy's for quite awhile now, and are well known in the Chevy crowd. When I stopped by, they just proto-typed their first LT kit for Ram's, and are interested in releasing a kit for Tundras
    • I got really good vibes from talking to the owner (Bobby), and a team member (Josiah). Josiah has the sic-est 1st gen I've seen with LT, CF bedsides, and some really nice SCS wheels in a rare color I've never seen before

Yes, I believe its a 12" spec'd by Zona. They are a ADS distributor but I went with Kings to match my coilovers. I doubt they are a King distributor, but just had a connection, and called in a favor to get the project rolling. I appreciated him not pushing me to get ADS tho. Good guys there. I'll go back for sure.

Was experiencing some extended crank issues, and fuel smell after turning the truck off. Found a defective filler solenoid.
Since the fuel tank had to be removed to replace the solenoid, I decided to do a DeatschWerks high volume pump upgrade.
What a difference it made to power and overall driveability.

We had a little Christmas eve adventure. Woke up Christmas day and found at least 1" of mud caked all over. Really glad I made the fenderliners.

    2021 Christmas mud at Lisa n Tonys.jpg

Changed the waterpump and serpentine belt kit. Having everyone tell me my belts squeak when I first start up the truck was more annoying than the squeak itself. FWIW, the OEM waterpump is an AISIN

Thank you kindly for the compliments. I have learned A LOT during this build. Hopefully some of my lesson learned the hard way will help someone else.

@68 RS/SS, by the sound of your user name, I think we have more hobbies in common than Tundras. I recently sold my 68 Camaro convertible. My brother just sold his 70 split bumper to these guys who are auctioning it.

pro touring is the route I would have taken if money was no object, car looks killer. Mine is just a street/strip ls swapped roach that I bought right out of college in 2008. I’m not ever selling it but I would love to grab a 6 speed challenger hellcat to park next to it.

Interior makeover complete. The front camera is great offroad & in tight parking lots. Which feels like almost all parking lots with this truck. Ha Ha.

The integrated brake controller and the stereo (including the subwoofer box) looks OEM. More pics to come soon...

For those interested in the steering wheel, look at Loncky.

    Thank you! Appreciate the compliments.

Just finished making a bedrack to mont my Hi-Lift & tire outta the way which still leaves me quite a bit of bed space for hauling stuff. No way the 37" spare was gonna fit under the bed.
