    Hey all

I’m on the fence and need your thoughts to help me decide. I bought my first Tundra trd pro brand new in Aug 2018 and have been absolutely loving it. The only thing that bugs me is the later upgrades (AppleCarplay, keyless entry, dual climate, etc) added for the 2020 and 2021 models. Although, it would be great to have these upgrades, I’ve been able to get over my feelings and just enjoy what I have rather than complain.

I was actually looking forward on upgrading the stock tires soon but after learning how crazy the Used Car market has been recently, I’m wondering if should take on the opportunity to sell or trade at this time. My tundra is not my daily driver so I don’t mind selling now and waiting to buy later if it is best. I have my eyes on the 2021 Trd Pro (Lunar Rock) but just fell in LOVE with the look of the new gen 2022 TRD Pro, just disappointed there’s no v8 option.

Please lmk if either of these tundras are worth upgrading from a 2019 or am i just falling for the hype again. Will the current gen last of the naturally aspirated 5.7-liter V-8s will decrease or hold in value now with the EV industry on the horizon?

I paid less than $54k MRSP with options and packages with no dealer markup for my tundra. I had to pay shipping $2k but that was still less than the $5k+ markups at my local dealerships.
Carvana’s current appraisal is at $49k.

Is this a fair price for current market or should i consider selling privately?
If you owned my tundra what would you do and what would be your bottom line price for sell or trade?

Here are the info and specs:
    • 2019 TRD Pro
    • 22K miles
    • Great Condition, Clean title, No accidents
    • Original owner and have all documentation to maintenance work
    • All stock, original tires and trd pro suspension
    Added the following parts:
    • RetraxPRO XR rectractable bed cover ($1,929 value)
    • Tundra Grab Handle Kit driver side ($175.71 value)
    • FormulaOne Ceramic Window Film tint ($853 value)
    • Yakima SkinnyWarrior Rooftop Basket ($279.19 value)
    • 2 Yakima FrontLoader Upright Bike Mount ($334.38 value)
My tundra also had some preinstalled upgrades/options and packages (picture attached)
    • Spray-On Bedliner
    • Pocketed Fender Flares
    • Charging and Connectivity Kit
      • Rear Dual Illuminated USB Charging Port
      • Dual USB Car Lighter Charger
    • TRD Pro Inlay Package bed side and tailgate
    • 5 Inch Oval Black Tube Step
    • Vehicle Protection Premium Package
      • Paint Sealant
      • Fabric Guard
      • Paint Protection Film

Please lmk if you have any questions and thanks in advance for any feedback

    In progress…
I traded my 2019 Pro for a 2021 Pro last year. The ‘19 had 28k on the clock; they gave me 48k for it (I paid 53k new) and I paid 58xxx for the ‘21. I don’t regret it at all. I gained CarPlay, dual zone climate, power locking tailgate, leather steering wheel, LED interior lights, push button start and touch unlock. I made the deal for the new truck last August and took delivery of the new truck in December. Things have changed since then. If you can make a deal you can live with I say go for it.

I'd keep it. You said it yourself, you love it. The keyless entry while nice is more often than not a pita in my experience, I curse it every day. No trans cooler. The car play is easily added. Dual climate is nice tho and probably difficult to add.

Do you want to spend money to change colors is the main q??

Edit: sorry just realized this is in the pro section and I don't have a pro, but the opinion is the same. I also have a bit of a buzz so disregard my post if you want lol

Great looking truck. I would hold. The changes from yours to a 2021 are not much and the prices of 2021s is pretty crazy right now. Really hard to come by a 2021 Lunar Rock as well. We don’t know the full specs of the 2022 yet. If the 2022 has better payload and better specs I might look to trade up but likely not until 2023 after a year of bugs being worked out. With the low miles yours has you could still likely sell for a good price in a year to someone who wants the V8.

What kind of truck do you want? Those “features” that got added after your model year are pretty damn minimal

It's not just the used market that is inflated. Everything is. The extra $$$ you get for your truck would be absorbed by the uptick in price on whatever you replace it with right now. You did say you can sell and wait, but you run the risk of not being able to get what you want going that route.

Are you willing to buy a used 2021 Lunar Rock? You could sell now, because your value is unlikely to increase any further, and wait for the release of the 2022 to see if there is an influx of Lunar Rock trucks being traded in. This would also let you see the 2022 and see if it's right for you. This approach would give you the most options, but you may miss out on a Lunar Rock if they aren't traded.

If you won't buy used, then you should only cash in when you find a Lunar Rock that you want. They are not readily available, but some can be found. That, or you wait for the 2022. Either option has the risk of the market normalizing and your value decreasing.

Full honesty here, the fact that you are considering going for the 2021 for a few upgrades makes me think that the 2021 would be a mistake. You'll get it, love it, and when the 2022 comes out with more features you will be right back where you are now. The ONLY caveat to this would be if you just can't part with the V8. If you have really really strong feelings for a V8, then the 2021 might not leave you disappointed when the new gen comes out.

My advice, stop looking at other trucks. Don't window shop or anything for a few days, and focus on your truck. Does it make you happy? Does if fit your needs? How close to paid off is it? Do you really want to move backwards on that debt track? Can you satisfy this craving for new by spending less money on some mods to fall in love with your current truck again? Even adding a trans cooler and a supercharger would likely cost you less than moving into a new truck.

I vote to keep it as well. It's pretty much a lateral move. If you traded, it would cost you more to get into what is essentially the same truck. You have a nice truck and alot of people would love to have a Pro. You have one....keep it. I went through this last year. For me it was a no brainer because mine was an upgrade. I went from a 2013 4.6 to the 2020 5.7.

I think you want to buy a new truck and you’re looking for people on a forum to support it so you can justify it to yourself. If you trade to a 21, you’ll be exactly where you are right now 2 years later, except it will have cost you more money. It’s not like you’re trading up to a 1 ton to tow more, you’ll be trading for the exact same truck

Appreciate you're reply! I wanted to trade last year too but I guess I felt the cost wasn't worth the new upgrades at that time. Its great to know someone is satisfied though! It's def making me reconsider and want to find that deal! Hopefully I can find one:(

No worries at all appreciate your feedback. My 19' Trd Pro does not have a trans cooler btw, I have the same thoughts. If I can't find a deal I'll likely just keep it!

Thank you! I'll probably wait for the full specs for 2022 before I pull any trigger. I just hope the value for v8s don't drastically decrease when it does

I don't understand how anyone could decide they would but a 2022 until actually taking one for a test drive, but that is me.

As for your truck, people seem gaga over TRD Pro's and it should sell quickly (maybe even faster if you remove those god awful fender flares...sorry had to throw that in there...could not help myself). Realize it will likely never be worth more than it is right this second.

As for your options you want, I was always a minimalist kinda guy but upgraded from a SR5 TSS to a SR5 TRD Pro. More for the ride and handling, but I have found myself really liking both the Keyless entry and Dual Zone AC (not to mention the super cool hood scoop..but you already know about that). Could I live without them? Sure. Would I want to? Tough call today.

Should you go for a 2021 TRD Pro? Absolutely...why not if you have all your other financial ducks in a row and are meeting those goals? But only do it if you can live with the the MPG going forward...seems to be more and more posts about that. I moved from driving Accords for 30 years to my TRD Sport...talk about an adjustment! But wow...the smiles are priceless.

As for how to sell....if you decide to...why not lock in a price from Caravan or CarMax (seems they are good for 7 days) while you try to sell private party?

You're probably right, I'd be lying if some support to justify haha. I'm likely going to keep unless I run into one of those rare lucky deals I hear about from time to time. Thanks again for your reply!

Lol people either love the fenders flares or hate them, never in between haha. I prefer to keep everything stock from sticker so will likely keep the flares. Also , grew to love it as it makes a bit different from other TRD pros. Appreciate your feedback and tips on how to sell as well:thumbsup:

Just my opinion. I would keep your 19 Pro till you see and drive a new tundra. If you move to a 21 and then decide you want the 22 it’s going to cost you more. Also a lot has to do if your truck is paid for and financially able to do it. I was planning on keeping my2020 AG Pro 4runner but decided to get the last year tundra Pro in the V8. My wife has a Acura SUV and we don’t need 2. Also my Pro was paid for and did not need to put much out especially getting my LunaRock at msrp. Also I’m in great shape if I would decide to sell it or trade it in. I feel our tundra Pros with the V8 are going to keep value really well. The way the car and truck market is it could be like this for the next 2 years.

If you don’t need it sell it. Wait till the 2022 at least that will hold you over for a few more years before they upgrade again. I love the auto/dual climate control on my 2020.

Keep it. Add the stuff your self that you can. It’s literally the same truck with minor things that can be added for less then the loss you will take paying for a new one. If anything wait for a 2022 see what it’s all about

As the saying goes, it's cheaper to keep her..
You've done all that modding to make it yours and to fit your needs.
Why start over on essentially the same truck?

AppleCarplay: Get an aftermarket Kenwood or Pioneer with wireless Carplay, you'll thank me later. The Entune HU sucks.
keyless entry: Seriously? Man up. Is it too much to press unlock on your remote and stick the key in the ignition?
dual climate: tell her to chill or throw her a blanket..

Great looking truck, just hang on to it..
You'll be closer to paying it off and having no vehicle payment...

I had a 2015 and now have a 2020 with the upgrades. I think the upgrades are great, but there's no way I know of where you can take advantage of the high trade prices without also paying an inflated price on the new one, so I don't know if it would be worth it to trade right now. If you can find one for MSRP though, sure...take advantage of that, because you'll get a premium on your trade.
