Couldn't finds anything via search so sorry if this has been asked already,

I have a 2008 SR5 Crewmax and I am really missing the steering wheel radio controls from my old cars, do you guys know if the radio has a wire harness pre-wired for the steering wheel with radio buttons? Is it possible if I were to find a steering wheel off a salvage with the buttons would it be a somewhat easy swap?

I think the answer is it "might" be prewiried. My single cab SR5 was not but depending on your trim level yours might be.

My truck is a 2007 but It has a 2018 steering wheel and I wired in all of the radio and instrument cluster controls. I physically had to add the wiring into my truck however. The only thing prewired in my connector was the cruise control signal wire to the ecu and the horn. I added in wiring to power illumination (lights on steering wheel buttons) and wires for signals to the radio and cluster.

Thank you, I have an 08 SR5 Crewmax. I might just pull the stringing wheel one of these days to check. It wouldnt hurt to pull it off so I have an idea on how it will come off if I find ibe at a pick-n-pull type salvage yard

This should help: The steering wheel controls plug into connectors Z2 and Z3 on the front on the spiral cable.
On the inside they come on the back of the spiral cable on the J45 connector.

Z2 has the horn and cruise control signal, ground
Z3 has the steering pad, Phone control and Radio control.
Your steering wheel from the salvage yard will have all the buttons and wiring for the Z2,Z3 connector. You just have to plug it into your truck on the front side of the spiral cable.

Where you might have to add wires in the J45 connector that takes the signal from the back of the spiral cable and sends it to the radio or cluster. I added wires on pins 4,5,6,12

At present, none. Planned: leveling kit, 33s, android head unit, 360 degree view cera's, front and rear dashcam, android head unit, front/rear bumpers, multifunction steering wheel, secret savings account.
I did this on a mini Cooper to add mfsw and cruise control to a vehicle that did not have either of those things stock. Cruise control wasn't even an option for that trim car! Dumb..

I had to replace the wheel AND the switchbox or blinker box (or whatever it is called, my brain is mush these days) AMD the wheel.

This is exactly the thread I was hoping to find, as there no mfsw on my 08 TRD tundra. Thank you! Will update with success is I have any.

My '07 DC TRD was pre-wired but without any controls. I swapped in a leather wrapped Sequoia steering wheel and the audio buttons work great. I considered going auto climate control, but for now those steering wheel buttons are extra.

Jeff_5_7 how hard was it to switch to a 2018 steering wheel? I know a lot of people on here have asked if the 3rd gen steering wheel will swap to the 2nd. All I've ever seen is that it does not. I would be interested in doing this, since I hate my 2007 steering wheel.

My truck is a 2007 with a 2015 dash and a 2018+ steering wheel. The steering column is the 2007 one and was not changed.

This photo shows it will the 2007 carpet and seats still installed. The 2018 steering wheel was a direct replacement.
Unhook your battery, remove your steering wheel airbag and there is one large nut in the center holding the wheel on. After it is removed you need a puller to pull the old wheel off and then the 2018+ wheel slides right back into place. You will need a newer style air bag as they are not the same.

As I mentioned above I had to add wiring for the steering wheel controls and lights on the buttons. You can add the newer style wheel and just have the buttons not hooked up

Nice. I think I might do this. Only controls I care about are cruise control and stereo. Looks clean. I remember reading about that 3rd gen gauge cluster install. Looks nice. If I come across another 3rd gen in the junk yard I might just try and swap some stuff out.

So theoretically, if I had steering wheel controls in my 2011 and swapped the newer sequoia steering wheel, my volume, phone, and other controls should work?
