I am looking at replacing the ice dispenser motor on my fridge and was wondering if you all knew of any good appliance parts websites? Or do you think going OEM is the better option?

Also, if there are any appliance repairmen/women in here...my fridge makes ice but does not dispense it. I can hear the little trap door open but the motor that turns the auger doesn't not fire up. That leads me to believe it is the auger motor and not anything electrical like the paddle or motherboard. Do you agree the motor is the issue and not anything else I may have missed?

    Any help appreciated! Cheers

I replaced our Samsung ice maker unit about 6 months ago.

Took a few hours to let it thaw, remove safely and replace.

    Ice works perfectly now.

I purchased OEM part based on my fridge model number and went through an online parts store. Amazon didn't have stock at the time or I would have went through them for return ease etc.

It was a super easy fix. Cost me about $130 Canadian and a few hours of watching ice melt.

As for your ice maker, does it need a good defrost? I tried that a few times first and it did help sometimes but I think I damaged it by using a hair drier to speed up the process along the way. Let it defrost using force defrost or powering the fridge/freezer off for a few hours or longer.

Look your model and issue up on boobtube, usually it’s a easy fix.
Like I could see that as being a door switch issue not a motor issue(my moms sorta does the same thing) it hinges enough to open the flapper but the micro switch doesn’t make so the motor doesn’t turn.
Any of the sites can be a gamble, but all the parts are pretty much the exact same. Good luck with your adventure.

Partsselect.com is 1 I've used, ebay and another online oem parts stores I've used.. I'm a tenant and try to reduce my Landlord's time in my place, so I've replaced a washer motor, dishwasher door and AC starter module... worth every penny IMO... but as stated search by make and model and there are some cross fitting parts.. youtube is your friend too

Date of manufacture is 9/2016, it's a whirlpool gold series

I've already taken it apart to see how easy of a fix it would be and it doesn't look like there are any signs it needs a defrosting but then again I don't really know what I'm looking for other than ice build up from condensation.

Is the plastic wrap around wires broke open?

For mine, it was a common Samsung issue and many YouTube videos. Apparently there are class actions lawsuits in the works in the USA for the crappy design of mine.

The Samsung ice maker was a solid block of ice for me and it was frozen over the condenser coil thingies (non technical term) and on my model, if you bent that portion it rendered the fridge unfixable. Stupid design. I spent a year googling, trying resets and nothing fixed it. It's nice to have ice again.

For our Jenn Air range parts, I've used partsdr.com. They've been consistently cheaper than anywhere else and I generally have the part in a couple of days even with the cheapest delivery method.
