What have you done to your 2.5 gen Tundra today?

High temps, sun exposure and high alkaline soil/dust make it tough on paint...

 

First DIY oil change in the Tundra. Installed an

$20 Toyota Oil Filter Cap - 15620-31060

aluminum oil filter cap and

$37 Original Fumoto F103N with LC-10 lever clip FN-Series Engine Oil Drain Valve, 1 Pack

Fumoto valve in the process. Also picked up a

$10 HOSE KIT FOR 3/8" ID NIPPLE FUMOTO VALVES

MOCW oil filter drain to make life easier. Used Kirkland Signature 0W-20 synthetic.

A few thoughts:

1. The stock SR5 skid plate is lame. You shouldn’t have to remove a skid plate to change a filter.
2. Valvoline Instant Oil Change is lame. They changed the oil last time. I had to remove the oil filter drain plug with a bench vice and ratchet with probably 80 ft lbs of torque. I’m surprised no damage was done when they replaced the last filter.
3. Fumoto valves are not lame. I made a huge mess without it this first time.
   
4. Motivx is not lame.
   
5. The oil filter drain is not lame. Though I didn’t use it because Valvoline Instant Oil Change is lame.
6. All of the accessories I purchased added up $, but they sure make life easier. The combined price was about the cost of one oil change. And now I can do it myself for $25 quickly with no mess.

You got a valve in for your plug. Contemplating the Valvomax one, but kinda freaks me out. I haven’t heard of any issues but…..

 

Added some decals. The tundra one is white reflective. Still not sure about it yet. Almost went with red instead since the bed decal is red and white.

 

I agree! But the reviews and mess I had to clean up convinced me otherwise.

Wait until you drive with it and it has the phone weight on it. It will shake so bad that you wont even be able to look at it. That thing is horrible. A couple of us here have it. Their website doesn't exist either. I had to cut mine up and use JB Weld to make it useable. Mine does not shake at all now, but I can't adjust it any longer either.

 

What light bar are you putting in the bulge? I'm thinking the Rough Country 40" for mine. I don't like the NSV and the Baja S8 is nice but expensive. The Baja is ~1K and the RC is $250.

 

I'm more than likely just gonna stick with RC, the old if it ain't broke scenario...

 

One of us needs to be the guinea pig for testing/fitment lol.

 

Truth. I HAD one. Went with @2020Platinum suggestion of the Scosche magic mount and problem solved.

 

I'll be ordering mine later this week, so let the games begin...lol

 

What does the funnel screw onto?

 

On sparks I cannot determine which is for platinum. They are just listed as gray, black, sand, fabric…

I believe that piece screws in to the top of the engine to add the new oil.

 

I enjoyed your write up! I am about to do my first oil change as well. I've only purchased a few things because I want to see how difficult and how it goes the first time.
I'm debating about buying a TRD skid plate so I can do the oil filter with just the trap door. Have you considered that? I've also heard there is a YouTube video on crating a trap door in the stock skid plate but honestly, I'd rather spend the money and have the TRD skid plate if it really does make life easier.
Only things I've bought are the MotivX tools, threaded funnel and drain tube for the filter.
I'm considering the fumoto valve and the aluminum oil filter thing but I'll probably see how things go the first time before doing that.

RCI skid plate has the trap door too and will be like half the cost of the TRD skid plate.
