I’m hoping to locate some Japanese blue or white super steel and laminate it between 2 layers of my Damascus. The stuff is hard to find in small quantities.

Sadly, the guy who has been making my sheaths, moved away. I’ve been learning how to do this myself, and it’s as complicated as you want to make it! While researching, I came across these. Pretty amazing work…507EE490-4ED4-4B8F-AD33-D3EE74E33AAC.jpg

I successfully hosed up my replacement Benchmade Barrage by stripping the screws while trying to move the clip (Im a lefty). Unfortunately I learned too late a little trick - use a soldering iron to heat the screws so the blue loktite breaks loose. Now, I'm once again will be without my Barrage (my last one was stolen out of my truck ).

I detest the tiny T6 screws that some knife makers use. Don't beat yourself up. You won't be the first, or the last to strip a T6.

On several of the knife forums that I frequent, there has been considerable chatter about a decline in quality of benchmade knives. My impression is that this has been over the last 4 to 6 years.
I haven’t bought a new benchmade in years, but I’m curious to know if anyone has had any recent problems. Specifically referenced was looseness at the pivot, weak latching and blade grinds off center.
Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love my old benchmade knives and feel they are some of the best

This was a concern of mine as well.
I bought my wife a purple mini bug out last year that stays in her purse.
It literally stays clipped in her purse 98% of the time.
I pulled it out the other day and was like, wth.
It’s loose and doesn’t seem to open smoothly.

Sad to hear that. Unfortunately I think we’ve all seen this happen; where outstanding quality of an item causes sales to rapidly grow followed by a problem with quality control. Pre 1980 buck knives were pretty amazing. I wouldn’t want one, these days.

Their quality control has definitely suffered, just like Buck.
on a positive note, it has pushed me to try other brands, which turned out great results.

Just avoid buying one “sight unseen”.
Wait till you are at a knife show or shop where you can check it out.

Benchmade quality control is sporadic. Sometimes you get a good one, sometimes you get one with issues. It’s been that way for a while now. I have a Bugout that’s absolutely perfect, but sent a Mini Adamas back a few weeks ago with poor action and play that couldn’t be adjusted out. Not acceptable for a $200+ knife. Best bet is to ask the vendor to check it prior to shipping or hand select one from a brick and mortar if possible.

For the most part, I've been happy with mine and I've had several made over the past 12 years. Overall fit and finish, blades sharp and centered out of the box. I'm sure there are some QC misses though. They produce a lot of knives.

I own 4 Benchmades. I have a Grip, a Barrage (one the way back), a hidden canyon (fixed blade) and a min SOCP (Fixed Blade). I've been very happy with the knives. The folders i special ordered so they were custom built. That may help. Also, Benchmade provides discount for Law enforcement and military (which I take advantage of).
My Barrage is an assist open. I carried one daily for 2 years. Then in June, i left it in my truck b/c I couldn't take into the college world series ballpark. That night someone broke out my window and stole everything of value. So, I ordered the replacement. I'm very open to trying other smaller market brands, one reason i watch this forum.
    Keep the ideas coming Folks!

My wife’s mini bugout is honestly the only one I’ve had any disappointments in.
My mini bugout, Freak, Rift and Crooked River are all outstanding.

As far as my oldest Benchmades, all have been outstanding and are solid as rocks.

A 9050SBK That’s been beat to hell and back.

I’ve got six Benchmades. My Bedlam, which is my oldest one (got it 3-4 years ago?) has gotten loose in the pivot. Not sure if it’s because of age, along with the fact that it’s the one I carry probably 75% of the time. I have probably 30 pocket knives, but that one is my standard go to.
Just recently started the process to send it for servicing, which is free for life. I’m a bit concerned about sending it in, as they are discontinued and I wouldn’t be able to replace it if something happens.
All the others are still in perfect shape, but like I said the Bedlam got used most of the time.
The only immediate issue I’ve had previously was on a custom one I ordered a couple of years ago. It he color was off, and the blade was off centered. Benchmade offered me either a discount to keep it, or a full refund if I returned it. I went ahead and returned it.
Benchmade was very prompt and responsive when I had that problem. They immediately accepted fault and rectified it to my satisfaction. Customer service was outstanding.

All that to say I’ve been happy with all of mine, but I’m not sure if my situation is an accurate depiction of their quality. All I can say is the one I need serviced got a ton of use and they are doing it for free.

I decided to restore the old Bench Made with the original Blackwood blade. Has a few battle scars, but wearing them well.
