Looks like I have 3 in round all metal running boards with serrated steps. They are beginning to look rough.

    Can anyone recommend:

    1. How to best prep the ruining boards once removed? Pressure washer? Light sanding?

    2. I'm looking to repaint. What paint to use? Primer? Top coat?

    Any suggestions are appreciated.

Sand blast them and then have them Line-X'd.

    That is what I did.

I agree with tye. Had mine Bullet Lined, which is similar to line x.

Here's mine, also got my Dsp's done as well . I paid $150 for steps. Line x wanted $200. Good luck. be540b8b3bb6e0bc1d62f60bff36cb3f_7701593ca9cc0df3cd339d743737e55ffd66a687.jpg

I'm looking for a lesser expensive option that will last a couple years. I plan on getting new boards later.

So, I'm thinking painting is the best way to go in that case.

My $ was just spent on new tires and an upcoming audio upgrade.

Otherwise, love the look of the line x!

The sliders on my jeep tj are painted with rustoleum bed liner from a rattle can. Awesome stuff. Goes on very nice and is quite tough. Absolutely what I'd use for your steps.

What he said, hit them with a wire wheel or sand paper to rough them up, wipe em down with denatured alcohol and spray away. This method also makes for easy touch up.

You can re-PC them but all rush needs to be removed. So sandblast them and PC.

You could line-x as is but if rust is present it will degrade.

Throw them in dumpster and buy new set.
