Hello All! I am in need of some new Front Brakes and Rotors.

I have a 2013 Rock Warrior. I’m looking for some really good stopping power and low dust.
    What do y’all recommend? Thanks.

Is this the first time changing the brakes since new?

    How many miles?

Nah, got 222k miles. The dealer put new pads on warped rotors.

I swapped to the following in late 2017. So far so good.

StopTech slotted sport rotors (F and R)
Posi Quiet ceramic brake pads (F and R)

They’re ceramic. I’ve read a lot about soft or spongy brakes with them, me included. I changed the pads to ebc within a year of having power stop.

Aggressive stopping power means high dust.

I only ask cause OEM were good for 80k on mine. Swapped to stoptech and had the death wobble for 20k until switching back to OEM.

OEM leaves some to be desired in stopping power but make up for in reliability. Kinda like a Toyota theme

I would go to a local dealer or order online from a Toyota dealer

best setup is factory disc, and some aftermarket pad. I use hawk on other cars I have.

I've had good results with the Power Stop "kits" (pads, rotors & hardware) on multiple vehicles. Lots of opinions when it comes to brakes ("mine is bigger than yours" LOL), but it is hard to beat the factory OE brakes on the Tundra. When the time comes, I will put the Power Stop kit on mine, as I think, from experience, they are equal to or better than factory.

I did the power stop kit on mine, plus rebuilt the calipers. I had about 195k on mine when I did them and they needed it. Got the kit from toyota, and it came with everything including grease. With 212k on yours, I bet you need those calipers rebuilt.

I just put new OEM pads on my original rotors that have 60k on them… I’ll have to see how it goes. I did about 10 50mph to 5mph hard braking for break-in, you could definitely smell the pads when I was done. So far so good.

Check out rockauto.com they seem to have really good prices. I got front and rear pads+ rotors for around $220 total

    Pretty things
    Are they made from cheese?

OE Pads, rotors, and shims cost me more than twice that.

Personally, the only other option I would consider: Brembo blanks and Akebono ceramics.... But I could not find one source for Brembos which I thought was strange.

They were raybestos brand. They have done me well so far. It was something along those lines. Nothing special. Believe me I almost pooped my pants because I had done my wife pads and rotors on her Camry maybe 6 months prior and just went down to autozone and I think it was almost $300

I did PowerStop Z36 front and rear. After about 20K I noticed the a slight front shimmy upon braking (warped rotor)...sigh...

Power stop z17 kit was $170 shipped to my door no issues so far 3k on them we will see. One lasted maybe 30k and my rotors were warped

I'm looking for an alternative to Power Stop Z36. I have very spongy and soft braking. Plus the rear rotors are rubbing and create a lovely metal on metal grinding sound.

FWIW - Unless replacement rotors were complete garbage, "warped" rotors are generally the result of poor braking technique. Most rotor deformation occurs when; after aggressive braking, when rotors and pads are very hot, the brakes pads are applied to the rotor with more force than necessary to keep the vehicle from moving. When that happens, pad material is transferred to the rotor causing the rotor surface to become "uneven". If that happens the rotor will wear unevenly - (this is a very "brief" summary of the process of pad material transfer, a more complete and technical explanation is available with an online search) You only want to apply enough "light" brake pressure to keep the vehicle from moving. When I stop (for a light), I decrease pedal pressure until the truck "just" begins to move.......
