Just replaced the 20yo stereo tape deck with wireless CarPlay. I feel like I have traveled ahead in time!
UPDATE: This will quickly fix the hyperflash on a NON DLR 2002 AC. With other vintages, your mileage may vary. If this is the first post you come to, KEEP SEARCHING. There are other solutions with different relays. Some are below.

I'm new here. Have an 02 AC TRD, bone stock that I'm maintaining. Wanted to add LED lights because they are brighter. Got hit with HYPERFLASH! I spent hours reading posts here and around the web about resistors and what they like to melt. And what a pain to spice into a perfectly good wiring harness?!? Here's the fix that takes less time than installing a bulb!

    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0786CQ2QN?

Took less than a minute to take it out of the box with one hand and remove the old fashioned relay with the other. Swap the wiring harness, snap snap and pop it back into place. Boom. No more HyperFlash. Cost me a dollar more than the resistors I bought first. Probably saved me an hour of removing light housings and splicing wires.

This relay has the same blink sequence and sound as stock.

Yeah, only .... NO. This is great if you have non-DRL headlights. If you have DRL headlights it's a no-go.

I used a very similar cheap flasher unit from Ebay or Amazon in my Lexus and after about a year it stopped flashing most of the time. Just solid on turn signal. The unit from diode dynamics is a much better peice especially with the tap to flash lane change feature. If you should ever run into problems check out their stuff. Cost a bit more but there's a good reason for it.

    Only way to go IMHO.

Those cheap resistors seem to have some downsides..:eek2:

If this worked successfully for you, then awesome, it is likely to help someone else with the same setup. The other members have pointed out some variables that may affect the success for other setups. Good to have all of this info.

I hope it can help.... That was the reason for it. After literally spending hours searching for the best practices answer though, I find I did not search enough. That's cool. Lesson learned. I edited my post to make it clearer.

Several for me. First, the stock lights are MELTING everything. The LEDs still get hot, but at least so far, are not as hot nor are they melting anything. I had to get new tail lights because the OE bulbs melted so much of the light housing, all three bulbs shown in all three sections..... (Full disclosure: I did have one set of LED reverse lights that were so powerful they needed a fan. I don't know if the fans died (in a week) or what, but they caused the light harness connector to melt....)

Secondly, they are brighter. ....they CAN be brighter. I wanted brighter because I bought smoked rear tail lights to replace the melted ones, and I wanted the same or better lumen output through them. The LEDs are MUCH brighter even behind smoked plastic than stock bulbs in OE Lights.

Thirdly, I like how the lights are nearly instant on and off vs the slower brightening of standard bulbs.

I have been using the same on in my 2000 AC with DRL no problem for almost two years now. I did disconnect the DRL plug though.

May be a year thing + DRL combo then. Would love more info, I just know the 8-pin flasher shown in OP's post won't fit anywhere in my truck. My flasher has twice as many pins. I'd need to hit up DD's website again to plug in a 2000 model to see if it's maybe something limited to '05-'06 or something.

When I started helping friends convert their incandescents to LEDs I found this little gem. From $10 to foolish high of $36, this is the go to flash unit for leds, I don't understand why this wont work with a DRL situation however. I need to see a DRL schematic to figure this out, or if somebody knows why, please fill me in!

Issue appears to be the existence of a resister in the DRL circuit. Can anyone confirm if unplugging the DRL harness would fix the issue? Also, the wiring for the 2000-2003/2004 is different from the 2005-2006, no?

2004 may have been the breakover year with the intro of the double cab. It's the oddball year.
