I have a 2018 tundra sr5 and I upgraded the radio to the Kenwood DMX7706S. Apple CarPlay always worked great up until a week ago. It connects through usb and apple CarPlay comes up but it’s disconnects every so often. Sometimes it’ll disconnect every few minutes or it can not go out at all and it’s getting very frustrating. I even purchase a carlinkit wireless CarPlay adapter and it still does it. I have already erased and reconnected phone from radio. Does anyone know what it can be? Thanks for the help in advance.

I have had issues with CarPlay that were resolved by doing hard restart on my JBL head unit and I have had issues that came up after my iphone updated. I don't have much of an answer for you other than it is way too finicky for something with only a few functions.

There was a thread a while back were the op's issues were fixed with a new cable.

I have had similar experiences on my Pioneer... It was the cable and vibration from the holder. Swapped the cheap cable, laid it flat on my console, no more issues

Yep, the first thing I would try is a different cable, although BT having the same issue is puzzling.

Well, the external wireless carplay is just a USB Dongle that you plug in to your existing USB port and connect via Wifi.

Could be that your car USB port is a bit loose on the dash. You can run an external bypass to the back of the unit to see if it's that.

How do you do a hard restart? I'm starting to have issues. I'll have to check the cable too.

On the JBL head unit, you hold down the volume button until it restarts. I would imagine that there is something similar on your unit.

So turns on it’s not the cable or the USB port. Realized it goes out when I hit a road bump. Phone stays charging but CarPlay disconnects and I have to plug and replug. I had Best Buy install when I purchased the head unit so I’m going to give them a call hopefully they can help me out.
