Here at ESP Truck Accessories, we have always strived to come out with innovative products. We were the first to come out with an under seat storage system for the 3rd Generation CrewMax after Toyota felt we did not need a slide and recline rear seat. We made our locking version first and it was a hit. Then you asked us for a more economical alternative. We answered that call and invested in our plastic version without hesitation, and again, we had a winner. Since our inception, we have been asked time and time again if we could make a box with one long compartment that would hold a rifle or fishing poles or any other longer items that could be locked up. We struggled with this as you may know, because of the seat rails that are under the carpet that the seat bolts to. Those rails go from the back wall of the truck to where the floor angles down towards the front of the truck.
This is why our storage has the three separate compartments. Over the past few months, we have been working with our engineer, and we redesigned the seat rails to make room for one long compartment. Well, we are excited to announce that we have completed fitting and testing of the redesigned seat rails, and today we test fitted the prototype of our new Toyota Tundra CrewMax Rifle box. Our new box retains the same shape and outside overall dimensions. It now features a single compartment that is 45 inches long by 10 1/2" wide and 3 5/8" deep. It has one single lid that covers the entire compartment instead of separate lids. This is still made from 5052 Aircraft aluminum that is tig welded. It will use our steel black hinges with stainless steel hinge pins that are near impossible to punch out with conventional tools. It will be finished in BK59 black powder coat, the same as our other products. This new design using our new seat rails will maintain the factory rear seat height, seat belts and mounting points. Our new seat rails are constructed from 7 guage steel for strength and safety.
Now unfortunatley, with a new design and added parts, there will be an increased price. We are going to be initally releasing these at $699.95 with free shipping in the Continental United States. After the initial release, the price will go up to $749.95 plus shipping as the new rails weigh about 9 lbs each making our shipping weight over 50lbs.
Anyone who is interested, please go to www.esptruck.com and email us, and we will contact you to let you know how to order. I am not posting pictures on the website until we have the prototype powder coated and the professional pictures done, but here are a few of the bare box installed into the truck along with the new seat rails.

I'm somewhat regretting being an early adopter of the first versions; I should've held out for this.

Two and a half years ago, I didn't think this was possible. When we made the first one, those seat rails were in our way like Trump's border wall. I knew eventually that we would try something, but those rails always put a stop to it. I finally decided to go to Toyota and buy the two center seat rails just to see what they were all about. We have been working on this project since November and I am just stoked that it worked!

Man that's is awesome. I've seen other manufacturers who attempted the same feat but did so by adding blocks under the seat mounts. I wasn't a fan of that as I was unsure if it would alter the seat performance in the event of a crash. However, maintaining the seat height, as you have done, negates that issue. Well done ESP.

Thanks. The company that does that makes great products. I had the same concern when he came out with it, and we actually discussed raising the seat with the blocks. He uses billet aluminum for the spacers and uses grade 8 hardware. The chances of someone having that set up in their truck, having someone of substantial weight and getting into a severe crash are very very slim. That being said, all it takes is one time and it's all over. With ours, you retain two of the four factory rails and we supply the two new ones. I am going to post more pictures later. I have to take the whole set up out and take everything to the metal shop for a few revisions, but so far we are good to go.

Agreed. I didn't mean to come off as knocking a competitor. I actually purchased one of their console products.

BTW, I bought an ESP under-seat storage without the lid. I love how I have access without the need to lift both seats. Makes it nice if you have a car seat installed.

Thank you for thinking outside the box and taking the initiative to contact Toyota to get this done. I will be watching closely.

One small concern: since there is one long door/lid, it requires accessing both sides of the truck, opening both rear doors and lifting each of the back seats up and removing anything else (carseat) that is sitting on the back seats. Any chance there will be a version with a door that independently opens from the driver side only so the compartment can be accessed quickly without leaving the driver side of the truck? For anyone considering using this to secure a rifle or other defensive firearm, limiting exposure and access time could play a factor.

Other than that, I think this is a home run and is the best solution to anything else I have seen. Congrats on developing an awesome product.

Agreed, I think if there were two lids that split exactly where the seats do, access would be easy. Additionally, an access door on the sides where you don't have to lift the seat at all would be awesome.

Obviously this would entail more cutting of the stock carpet and there may be more seat mounts in that area.

Honestly, if you made a version that used the spacers and allowed for a taller/deeper storage system -- I'd buy that one in a heartbeat to replace my version 1 of your product. Think about it!

So, we are going with the two lid version. I am hoping that the prototype will be done by the begining of the week. As soon as I fit it, they will start producing them. As I said, they will be offered at $699.95 then after the first run they will go up to $749.95. SPVRTAN, as far as making it deeper by using the spacers under the seat, I won't do that. Adding a spacer to the seats means raising the seat. A few things happen when you do that. One, the seatbelts are now not in the original positions and the point where they come accross your body changes. In an accident, this could cause unnecessary injury that may have not happened in the stock position. Two, if you put a spacer under the seat, the seat is not bolting flat to the seat rail, using longer bolts. These bolts may stress or break in a serious wreck and if that were to happen, it could cause serious injuries if not death. Sounds extreme, but having a bit of an engineering education, I can't risk my company or my future if that one person has an accident and gets hurt. Not sure I could have that on my back.

e are now taking orders on these. I did the final fitment today and it fit perfectly. We are doing the two lid version only. With all the feedback, the two lid version is what everyone seemed to want, and to tell you the truth, when I put the single lid version in my truck, it was kind of a PITA, lol. You can order on the website and we are going to take the orders until June 22nd and we will place the order. After that, they will go up to $749.95. They will be shipped in 5 weeks as it take 4 weeks for the metal company to cut bend and weld, a week for powder coat and a few days for assembly and packaging. Our site is www.esptruck.com. Once again, thanks for all of your support.
