Are there 4Runner forums that are good reference like this forum? Want to check out ideas and see where others have placed their cameras on the 4Runner

I had a 4runner before my tundra and that was my go to resource for information.....and their classifieds section usually has some pretty good deals too.

Can the FRAC be changed so that a second rear camera replaces the front camera? I will be getting a bed canopy and ideally would like to mount a second rear-facing camera atop it, so my boat is visible while driving. I expect it is mostly a question of how to run wiring from the canopy to the bed (quick release?) and then underneath into the cab.

    @SSPey
I don't see why not. The cameras that most of the FRAC harness users purchased are configurable for either front or rear use. The FRAC harness does not care. It just has two camera inputs: the OEM rear and whatever you connect to the other RCA connector.

There are no limitations. I installed my "front" camera on the passenger side mirror to see cars better when towing my enclosed.
As stated in the previous comment. Wire routing will be the only "Challenge"
Extending the yellow co-axial and the 12V power should be the only differences.

Your biggest challenge might be finding a switch that says "Rear 1" and "Rear 2". :D

The FRAC Harness is designed to provide a lot of flexibility in connecting cameras. It breaks out the Factory Tailcam video to an RCA connection as well as providing an RCA for a Front camera. If a second rear cam for a trailer is desired, the best way to do it is to connect the two rear cam inputs to a video switch then route the video switch output to the rear input of the FRAC Harness. Then you can select which one you want displayed when rear view is selected via the FRAC Cam select switch or by shifting into reverse.

How would one go about mounting the camera in this location?
Are there any additonal pieces/hardware required?
    Thanks in advance!

You should be able to screw it to the “fin” or horizontal plastic in between the, Y-O.

There are 54 pages so I did not read them all so if my question has been asked Sorry.

I don’t have the need for a front camera but would like the anytime rear.
Does the original audio source continue to play when switched to the front camera input?
I’d like to add a video source (streaming player) so was thinking of plugging the video into the FRAC front camera input and the audio to the Aux input.
    Would this setup work?

The FRAC Harness utilizes the same video mode that the OEM Camera uses. Audio will continue to play at all times just as it does if you shift into reverse and see the backup camera video. The volume control also continues to work. A number of my customers have used the FRAC Harness for this and nobody has reported any issues with it.

@TundraTex or anyone else with experience - I know it is in the 54 pages of this thread but I cannot seem to find it. How do I use the Anytime switch for the cameras? I assume two wires are for the switch illumination and three are for the front/rear cameras with common ground but the Anytime switch has six wires. Thanks.

Check these posts. The last one has pictures. The others are a more recent request and a reminder to clip the diode.

And to clarify, Anytime did not have the package marked or any instructions as to the wiring of the switch. Seeing the prior package was a major help. Thanks to @3rdTundra and I can't imagine why you do not have one yet! This makes garage parking much simpler!

I have the FRAC harness and a front camera, I just used the switch provided with the harness instead of the Anytime switch

My apologies if I missed any updates on a separate thread, but very interested in hearing from somebody who has already done this setup. It looks pretty straightforward, just a couple of questions:

    1) Would it make more sense to install the camera towards the top of the windshield rather than the grill if I'm more interested in using this soluion as a 'dash cam' rather than off-road driving assistance?
    2) Any recommendations for a decent quality mobile DVR that works well? The choices on Amazon are few with limited reviews - maybe due to the ongoing chip availability issues?

    Any feedback is appreciated!

Most people who have mounted them high end up moving them lower. The cameras have such a wide field of view that mounting higher just gives more sky. You probably should get a camera that is adjustable rather than one that does not tilt.
    I used this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07JCSYPPS?ie=UTF8
This is another good choice: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07HNRYHZ6

Mine is located on the bumper here:

Here is the image with the camera horizontal (poor image quality is a photo artifact. it is clear on screen):

This is the DVR that most seem to have used in this one mounted in the glove box:

If you are wanting a dash cam, I would just purchase that instead. It will be easier to install (no going through firewall) and has more functionality than the backup cams that most seem to be using on the front. I just installed this relatively inexpensive camera and am happy with it.

My off-roading does not require a front cam but I still highly recommend (and own 2 of) TunraTex's FRAC harness (and a front camera) for the parking assistance it provides.

Thanks for the quick feedback guys!

@okcowboy I should have known this was the type of forum where somebody would help me realize my problem - I was mistakenly approaching this as an "either/or" solution rather than realizing I would end up "needing" both :)

Good point. Here is a simple way to get power for the dashcam without tapping:

For Tacoma, but also lists 17+ Tundra

Used to be on Amazon, but says currently unavailable.

If going with the DVR option, does the DvR keep recording both cameras if you don’t have the cameras activated in your dash?

@TundraTex explains this with the options very succinctly. I haven't come across any posts from somebody who actually installed the front cam and DVR connected directly to the battery with a switch yet...
