    Has anyone had or considered both systems? I've been thinking about adding a tonneau cover so i can have lockable watertight storage but then I discoverd the Decked system.

    I like that it leaves the entire bed available, but at roughly half height though. The drawers look like a great way to organize stuff like jumper cables, air compressor, recovery gear, but don't offer a way to transport say luggage like a tonneau cover does.

    I was looking at a Diamondback SE.

    So, anyone had both or go from one to the other? If so why?

    Thanks.

    Just a cover with the Decked leaves little room in between for much of anything...

    I’ve gone back and forth. The 2 things that keeps me from the decked system:

    1. Bed depth. Think of how many boxes and stuff i typically throw in the bed, but now am worried about them bouncing out.

    2. Wasted space. The drawers are amazing. But how many cubic inches are going to pure waste.

    Yeah these are a the main thoughts I have. I don't carry a whole lot of boxes in the back now and i have the Deck rail system to tie down. I guess if someone hasn't done the math yet I need to try and see how much usable storage between the wheel wells is lost using this system.

    Im sure they have cu measurements of their drawers and compartments. You relatively compute the overall deck displacement

    Decked are good if you have a cap imo, so you can still store a lot of stuff above the drawers.

    Some stuff
    finally. i'm #known. i feel so validated.

    :yay:

    yes, you'll lose about half the height of your bed with the drawers. i use one drawer for recovery gear (straps, shackles, hi-lift attachments/base, med kit, etc). the other drawer is for blankets, tp and the decked boxes which i use for camera gear.

    with a cap, i still have plenty of height to throw stuff in the back. i also have tie down rails on top of the decked drawers. i do only have about half the width because of the fridge but, it's still plenty of room for a few boxes, camera gear, skis or camping gear. i also have the roof rack if i need it.

    also, i do not have any issues off road. no shifting. nothing cracking or breaking.

    I just got the Decked box for my truck. I am on the fence. To be fair I use my truck to mainly haul golf clubs, myself to my office job, and rarely use the bed but you lose significant depth in what you can load back there.

    Things I love about it
    1. organization - in cab storage is less than good in the crewmax so this is great
    2. security - honestly it feels more secure than having things laying in the back seat, I have the locks and a locking gate so if I put my rifles back there I know they are locked down.
    3. waterproof - I went through the car wash and everything in the drawers was bone dry (I wax it myself and do touch ups at a drive trough... sue me)

    Things I don't love
    1. you lose half the depth of your bed, sure you can tie things down but just tossing a few bails of pine needles back there is now not an option without tie downs, or tossing my trash can in the bed to drive up the driveway (its fine if you just drive slow)
    2. It wasn't cheap but to be fair its less than the Retrax tonneau I was going to get

    I am about 2 weeks in, I will revise if anything else pops up.

    Month into Decked, I needed to pick up a couch and had to rent a trailer. Bed would've handled it just fine had I not have had the Decked installed. I did put about 1,000lb of topsoil on a tarp on top of decked and it was totally fine. I am probably going to offload it and go for a hard tonneau. I will probably move to rifles and golf clubs in the cab even with the hard tonneau. Looking for suggestions probably wont spend the amount the Retrax costs.

    Hey guys I'm new here and this is my first post. I appreciate the input on this thread as I am torn on this decision too.

    I did the research and nerd math and here's what it comes out to:
    Double cab (DC) total bed space = 116,010 in³ (67.14 ft³)
    Crew max (CM) total bed space = 98,321 in³ (56.90 ft³)

    Total space taken up by decked (including wheel well width):
    DC = 62,708 in³ (36.29 ft³) = 54% of bed space taken up
    CM = 53,147 in³ (30.76 ft³) = 54% of bed space taken up
    Bed space utilized (what the drawers hold, DC= 6ft³/ea, CM= 5.4ft³/ea) out of the 54% of bed space taken up:
    DC = 33% (12ft³/36.3ft³)
    CM = 35% (10.8ft³/30.8ft³)

    Bed space utilized between wheel wells only (doesn't count space forward/ backward of wheel wells on sides):
    DC = 44%
    CM = 47%
    Note: This would be used if you assumed you made your own "decked" style pull out drawers that used more of the space between the wheel wells than the decked system uses.
    (Cause the drawers only use 34" out of 50" available). I consider this more of a fair comparison if you were to do your own or something.

    Now...
    I'm really struggling to give up over half of my bed space and only being able to use 30-40% of it; however, I'm also struggling to find a better way to keep things organized, held in place, secure, protected from the elements, etc...

    Why did you need the trailer? Was it because the couch was too long to fit in the bed with the tailgate closed (and you couldn't just drop the tailgate for the extra length cause the decked causes a step) ?

    @ToyoD nice calculations! It is a little concerning that 3/4 of decked’s costs appear to be marketing budgets for YouTube commercials…

    Doesn't decked state the drawers are full length they just don't pull out all the way because "physics"?

    I actually sold a deck system from my used 2016 and got a tri-fold tonneau cover because of the lack of depth as mentioned in the previous post. The only option is really to get a deck system with a cap if you really are set on get a deck system.

    I will agree with many, the deck system is great if you have a cap. Without you have taken your truck and turned it into a very expensive El-Camino that loosely holds your stuff. I spent the $$ and got the Bak revolver x4. All of my tools are in rigid storage boxes plus 1 generic storage container. They can all be removed easily if I need the the whole bed, 99.5% waterproof if I leave everything in it.

    One thing that i thought of this summer. When towing, if your trailer jack prevents the tailgate from opening, what pain in the rear to have the tools you need in your decked drawer.
