I've had it loaded for a week or two. I actually kind of like it, thus far. I mean, it's better (IMHO) than the complete Charlie-Foxtrot that was Windows 8/8.1.

With that said, literally all I've done with it has been to send email, do some web browsing research, etc. But as what I'd term an 'alpha' version, it's pretty dang stable, and I've run into extremely few problems.

I've been using the Windows Insider "alpha" for a week or so. Definitely an improvement. I need to mess around with it some more though.

Better than Windows 10? Or 7?

I mean, regardless of what I say, it'll be considered wrong, because both of those are kinda the only decent OS's that Windows has released in the last 15 years or so. LOL

It reboots a bit faster than Windows 10 does; and from a security standpoint, it's more secure than Windows 7. To me, it essentially looks like Windows 11 is Windows 10 with some spit-n-polish on it (new folders, new start menu, etc.) but again, I've not any file transfer tests or any of that stuff thus far.

I'd personally say that so far, it's not a step backwards from Windows 10; only time will tell if it's an improvement. I WILL say I like the 'Settings' window a lot better than that in Windows 10.

It's not all that different. :shrug; they moved the task area, rounded the corners of windows, added some gloss. Otherwise, it's a solid 'meh'.

...you mean like how Windows 7 was just Windows Vista with some spit-n-polish? Don't get me wrong, I hated the initial release(s) of Vista, but by the time they got to SP2 (right before Windows 7 launched) it was actually decent. Microsoft is funny about OS upgrades/refreshes. I don't understand how they miss so badly on every other release.

The Windows OS market share has exploded over the last few years. Their largest competitor, Apple, was outsold by Chromebooks last year. Good or bad, Windows OS is a giant that can't be toppled. We might as well consider them a public utility. Depending on which data you look at, their world wide OS market share hovers around 80-90%

Yeah, but Windows Vista *SUCKED* bad. Upon initial release (and now), Windows 10 wasn't/isn't anywhere near the disaster Windows Vista was. LOL

But yeah, I hear you on the every other release thing. Reminds me of this graphic I saw just before 8 was released...and it wasn't wrong.

I heard they were planning on using a Linux kernel for the next revision of Windows.

I don’t see anything that talks about that unfortunately.

This^^. You would be hard pressed to find any calibration lab or R&D lab using anything but Windows. Apple OS is worthless in that invironment although you might occasionally see Linux which is becoming more useful. No MacIntrash in our labs.

I don't know of anyone in the business world not using Windows and Office, other than a few specialty programs that run on Linux.

What NAS is giving you problems with Win10? I have two NAS drives, one WD, and one Synology. I've never had an issue with either, from the original Win10 to the latest.

Same; have owned 2 Synology NAS drives, a homebrew, and two WDs; and have had no issues with either of them. (This is including Win 11.)

In my engineering firm, about 50% of our engineers are running Macbooks. But the only software they are using in the MacOS is office apps. When they have to do any configuration or other systems programming, they have to run Win10 in Parallels.

I will only find out when work makes a switch. I'm torn between which company I hate the most but my 7 year old MacBook Pro is still cruising right along and apple hasn't made any really big hardware improvements that affect what I am doing. No I don't game with it.

Mac is less than 10% of Apple's revenue now. I could almost see them giving up that segment to concentrate on their phones and services segments except it would be devastating to have to put Windows OS on their office desks.

If it can't run CAD, it's a worthless OS :D I don't know a single person who professionally uses anything but Windows, at least in the aerospace sector.

WD Ex2 Ultra, will do fine until windows updates than no longer able to be found, countless nights spent on this problem. No more ever again. My Imac found it instatntly and has given me no issues.

It’s funny how many ppl hated vista and loved 7. They were essentially the same OS. Vistas flaw was that it was released on sub-par hardware specs. OEMs were putting it on PCs w/ 512MB of RAM, slow processors, and mechanical HDDs. Kind of like putting a nice interior and a fresh paint job on a pinto. It might look good, but under the hood it’s still a pile of :poking:

Windows hasn't changed much over the last number of versions. That's why many of the same problems still exist, and programs and drivers from Win7 work fine in Win10. It's more of that lipstick stuff.

It's gonna be a couple of years until it matures completely. As of now, W11 is kind of a refresh of W10.
