I am in the process of ordering my new tires, Nitto Ridge Grapplers 295/70/18 and I asked the guy at a local Discount Tire shop if I could fit the 35/12.50/18's, he said no, not without a lot of cutting and a CBM, :frusty:

My question is, he also said that I need a TPMS rebuild for $8 each tire or buy 3 new and get the 4th for free at $40 a pop.

I will be taking off my OEM 18" cheaper steel wheels, can I use those TPMS's and replace them on my new 18" Alloy SCS SR8 wheels!

    Thanks

I could be totally wrong here, but when I was replacing tires and rims, I thought I had read that you cannot crossover TPMS sensors from steel to alloy. Hopefully if I'm wrong, somebody will correct me.

That said, it wasn't an issue for me, as I went from alloy to alloy. I also had a 5th one installed in my new matching spare.

Edit - never mind on tire size/chop, that wasn't your question. It's late, don't mind me.

Also, I'm guessing that rebuild is to make them crossover from steel to alloy?

you think it's best buying all new TPMS's and would they be more reliable then a rebuilt one!

Not sure about which is best. This is my first vehicle with TPMS sensors, so it's pretty new to me. I do know that I knocked some money off my rims when selling them since the buyer would have to get them in addition to buying my rims.

Personally, I'd probably buy some new ones, but then you also have to factor in programming. To me, considering how much I spent on tires and rims, sensors would seem like a minor expense. But then, a penny saved and all that. To me, I guess sometimes I don't mind buying a little peace of mind, however misguided it may be.

Yeah, 35's = body mount chop.

I run a +18 offset with my 295/70/18's and barely missed having to chop. In my sigline is a link to my build, there are some photos of how close it is.

Yes, I hear you, peace of mind,

He said I could get the warranty for $200.00 extra, good until the tires go bald or 10 years and covers blown tires, defects, cuts and more, guess at $300 a tire thats pretty good peace of mind!

thanks, I'm hoping with my +25 offset and the 295's I won't have a lot of poke out from fender, I'm thinking maybe 1/2-1"

Thanks man. It's a Lewis Machine & Tool. Very good company for AR's, if you're scouting around for one.

I've got a couple of LMT's and Colts, shoot my LMT's the most.

Hey guys here's the deal. The rebuild they are selling you is the seal kit that seals sensor to the wheel. You can put sensor in steel or aluminum wheels. Rebuilding a sensor will not affect it's reliability it will ensure that it doesn't leak air. Lastly the new sensors they will sell you will be cheap aftermarket ones that don't work as well as OEM ones. If your sensors are all working I would just have them installed with rebuild kits.

Like Tundraplatinum said the seal kit is just a rubber grommet, washer and new nut to seal them in the alloy wheels. I just swapped from steel wheels to alloys and I purchased my kit from @Roman on the site. Also the alloys do run a different angle then the steel wheels, most have said aftermarket wheels it wont matter like it does with the oem alloys. I reused my stock steel sensors and just flipped them 180*, tires fit fine over them.

I think the $8 per tire might be to replace the valve stems on your old wheels when you remove the tpms.
