I thought about a component set to take care of front door and side dash speakers. 6x9 or 6.5 components? No idea what to do with center dash speaker ( disconnecting might be the best way to go if putting an amp in)... as for the rears.. 2 way or 3 way?

Thats what I have. Very Happy with that setup. Make sure to paint your mounts black if you make your own!

When you are pricing out new components, you could try re-creating what accidentally happened to me. I was on www.sonicelectronix.com and put a bunch of stuff into my cart (I had logged into my account) and left it there while I priced things out elsewhere. A week later they emailed me and reminded me that I had a bunch of stuff in my cart still and offered me 10% off. No idea if they are still doing that, but might be worth a shot.

I ended up getting everything on Amazon as their prices were better on everything and I have found that their return policy to be outstanding. Almost like returning stuff to Costco.

There is a pic of my drivers door. 6.5 inch but you will need to build or buy brackets. Those doors are solid!

That is what I would like to do. Leave the factory HU and upgrade everything else.

I'll have to research 6.5 components and 6.5 2 ways.. What kind of power would you look at if your sub/amp combo is 5-600 watts?

Yep, should be about 600 watts RMS.

I have my Orion XTR10001 Amp wired @ 2ohms so that should be about 500 watts RMS. The 2 subs are Kicker 8" CompRT 43CWRT82 with 300 watts RMS each. they will be going into a 1.5 CuFt ported box.

Heck, by the time this is over with y'all will have helped me plan out my entire system upgrade.

That looks good. I was thinking something in the 50 watt rms range. Crutchfield has a sound ordnance amp and a few options on speakers. I'm not really brand loyal as long as it's priced right and gets quality reviews.

What would be the pros and cons of 6x9 components or 6.5 components? Are components up front even necessary?

Are they necessary...thats up to you. Some people are ok with all boom and no vocals. If thats you or you don't play it loud then you could probably get away with out it. If on the other hand you like lots of volume and you listen to music that has highs then yes they are necessary. Like I mentioned earlier(and i had an issue believing this also) if you want to save time and money just do your front doors. I or anyone in my truck wouldn't be able to tell if the rears are on and they both are pretty costly in my opinion. While those door panels are off put on some dynomat...maybe not as much as mine but at least the bottom portion of the door and the bracket that holds the speaker also.
Agreed that you are on the right track. Come up with a plan and stick to it. If you need to purchase stuff in phases like i did it will be worth it in the end rather then taking a shortcut somewhere.

Thanks for the input guys. This will most likely be a budget minded phase build. I'd really like to avoid spending buku bucks. At the same time I want to have good sounding tunes. I know the sub install will be first and then I will evaluate just how much the stock speakers need to be upgraded. I may decide I don't need an amp. I won't know until I start installing things.

Any reviews on sound ordnance stuff? Crutchfield has them listed at good pricing for 50w RMS equipment and they look to get good reviews (reading through them now). Is it even worth going with an amp at 50w RMS? And is it true that the factory radio puts out 22w RMS? Here is a list and thoughts...

    Amp: https://www.crutchfield.com/p_777M4050/Sound-Ordnance-M-4050.html?tp=35782
    6.5 Rear: https://www.crutchfield.com/p_777P65B/Sound-Ordnance-P-65B.html?tp=105

I am questioning the fronts... Component .vs. dash & door
    6.5 Component Front: https://www.crutchfield.com/p_777P65CB/Sound-Ordnance-P-65CB.html?tp=105
    ...or...
    3.5 dash: https://www.crutchfield.com/p_777P35B/Sound-Ordnance-P-35B.html?tp=105
    6x9 Door: https://www.crutchfield.com/p_777P69B/Sound-Ordnance-P-69B.html?tp=105

The amp and rear speaker is very straight forward. I'm not sure how the 3 dash speakers work. So that leaves me confused about the dash and front doors.. replace the dash with an actual 3.5 and use a 6x9 or replace the 2 with a 6.5 component set?

    Someone please school me.

I'm looking at Focal's website.. They are money. A bit more than I think I want to spend right now. That being said.... Did you go component up front or individual speakers for dash and door?

Dash ends are tweeters not actual speakers..
The tweeters in a component systems are 8 o hms..when connected with the 4 ohm speaker ends up as a 2 or 4 ohm load don't remember the exact#.

Tweeters on dash, 6x9 mids in front door and 6.5 coax in rear door.

You can't go wrong with Focal's. I ran the K2 power components in my 4Runner and now using the fiber ones(can't remember the name). Both vehicles I matched the same speaker line but just did 6.5" two ways for the rear doors. These things are insane!! I don't know if it's in your budget and I'm not trying to talk you into something but I just saw crutchfueld has them right now for almost 50% off. Still 699 for the set. If I needed another set I would have ordered them already. Your tweets go in the corner of the dash and like before just unhook that center channel.

With that said those things can take over 100wrms. It wouldn't be hard to over power your subs with that setup. You could turn the gain down on an amp and if you ever upgraded your subs your mids are already waiting for you.

Unrelated sort of this morning I remembered I still have fader control on my deck. With it centered you can't tell the rear door speakers are there until you fade it to the rear. All they do is add to the overall volume. I believe mine is time corrected though so that may be why.

So... I'm working through some things and think I have a game plan. Let me know your thoughts. I'm trying to get the best quality sound while being a cheap a$$ (Ha) and leave room for future upgrades. Sound deadening and proper install components will be used.

    Stage 1:
Sub Amp: Purchased many moons ago and is tried and true... https://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_20429_Orion-XTR10001-XTR-10001.html
Sub: Previously purchased Qty 2... http://www.kicker.com/comp-rt-8-2-ohm-subwoofer
Sub Box: Purchased and awaiting build/arrival... https://www.netaudiowf.com/product/2014-15-toyota-tundra-double-cab-sub-box-downfire-dual-ported/

    Stage 2:
    Center Dash: https://www.crutchfield.com/p_777P35B/Sound-Ordnance-P-35B.html?tp=105
Note: Is it worth messing with this speaker? I know people say to disconnect it, but will putting a better speaker in this location make a difference?

    Front Door + L/R Dash: https://www.crutchfield.com/p_777P65CB/Sound-Ordnance-P-65CB.html?tp=105
Note: What is everyone using to mount tweeters in the dash locations? I do not want to cut up my sails.

    Stage 3:
Rear Door: Remain stock for now w/ future upgrade to... https://www.crutchfield.com/p_777P65B/Sound-Ordnance-P-65B.html?tp=105
Note: General consensuse seems to be these are not necessary to upgrade right away.

    Stage 4:
Speaker Amp: Remaining stock for now w/ a possible future upgrade to... https://www.crutchfield.com/p_777M4050/Sound-Ordnance-M-4050.html?tp=35782
Note: Still on the fence as to the necessity of this upgrade over stock.

I'm choosing Sound Ordnance because (based off specs) they will allow me to work with the factory HU/Amp (either 18w or 22w rms x 4 from what I could find) and leave me room to upgrade the amp if necessary. Plus they are cost effective and look to be well made.

Questions, comments and concerns are always welcome. I take cost effective recommendations as well.

Thank you. I'll check them out for the Tweeter mount. I'm also going to see what types of wiring they offer for plug and play. I'd love to not have to hack up the factory wiring for the sub/amp install.

How did you wire in the crossover for the component speakers? I found a post that a guy used the factory wiring which is what I would want to do. Problem is.. he didn't say what wires on the driver side.

Thanks for the info. I'm looking through it now. Looks like slight install differences, but the wiring should be all I need. I will say that I was under the impression that the factory amp powered all speakers except the center. According to the thread that is false.

Another member and some more reading has got me thinking again. Keep in mind that I have Non-JBL Entune Premium w/ Nav..etc..

    I have 2 questions...

Question 1: Has anyone confirmed that the under pass seat amp only controls the front door speakers?
--I read in another thread that the 3 dash speakers and the rear door speakers are only controlled by the HU while the front door speakers are controlled by the amp.

So, Depending on the above answer... I have 2 options.

    1. Leave the factory amp and stick to my original plan of nice components up front/outer dash, stock rear speakers(or replacements) and stock 3.5 center, replacement 3.5 or remove.. I do not know how much this matters.
    Center: https://www.crutchfield.com/p_777P35B/Sound-Ordnance-P-35B.html?tp=105
    Front: https://www.crutchfield.com/p_777P65CB/Sound-Ordnance-P-65CB.html?tp=105
    Rear: https://www.crutchfield.com/p_777P65B/Sound-Ordnance-P-65B.html?tp=105

    ..or..

    2. Remove the factory amp and put in a 4 channel 50W RMS, go with a nice component up front/outer dash, get a nice rear speaker to handle 50 watts but not break the bank and then either a nice 3.5 center or disconnect it.
    Amp: https://www.crutchfield.com/p_020XC1410/Clarion-XC1410.html?tp=115
    Center: https://www.crutchfield.com/p_206KSC3504/Kicker-44KSC3504.html?tp=105
    Front: https://www.crutchfield.com/p_777P65CB/Sound-Ordnance-P-65CB.html?tp=105
    Front: https://www.crutchfield.com/p_206DS62/Kicker-DS6-2.html?tp=105
    Rear: https://www.crutchfield.com/p_777P65B/Sound-Ordnance-P-65B.html?tp=105
    Rear: https://www.crutchfield.com/p_206DSC6504/Kicker-43DSC6504.html?tp=105

Question 2: What would you do with the above equipment options? Spend my money, but you have a cap of $365.

Thanks for the offer GNTundra, but I'm still back and forth on how far down this rabbit whole I want to go. I want to be cheap, but have it sound good.. these 2 things don't really go together all that well. So... I'm trying to find my happy medium.

On a side note... According to ********* website the HU powers the 3 dash speakers @15W and the non-jbl amp powers both the front and rear doors @18W. The ********* info conflicts with the info I read in a previous thread online. Can anyone confirm the info provided by *********? I'm trying to DIY this in the easiest fashion possible, while being a cheap bastard.

I got confirmation that my Sub Box is on the way. Can't wait to check it out. Hopefully by Wednesday. Anyway, I've decided that I do not want to build my own wiring harness. That leads me to ********* because I'm lazy and I'll pay a little more for convenience. After that I'll go through Amazon for the Amp, Speakers and mounting components. I'm still on the fence about the amp, but I have decided on speakers.

I'll be doing the install myself. Starting with running the amp kit along with the wiring harness. Then it'll be actual amp installation and sub. Then I'll tackle the doors. I'll keep everyone updated with photos.
