tried to do a search on this but didnt see much.
I have a 2016 limited, considering purchasing and installing an electric lock-unlock product for the tail gate, to work with my factory key fob on the door circuit.

spent 10 min on youtube seems pretty easy to install

    are there various brands available.
could have sworn I say one that actually comes with wiring with harness ends so you dont have to tap into existing wires.

basically what options are out there , pros and cons

This is the module you need.
POP & LOCK - Power Tailgate Lock for 2016-2021 Toyota Tacoma and 2007-2021 Toyota Tundra, PL8547HD (for Tailgate with OEM Lock) https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B00LST3022

You can use this without the adapter harness I linked but there is cutting and splicing to factory wiring to make it work.
The harness makes it plug and play.

    None...yet
So, I put the pop & lock version in my 2016 Tacoma and the actuator "pop" was so loud it was embarrassing to lock in public. I think the hallow tailgate didn't help but something to consider. I ended up lining the inside with dynamat and stuffing it with insulation. It helped. I will definitely being going with OEM on the Tundra.

I actually just installed this one after I installed a soft bed cover.
DEF Power Tailgate Lock Replacement for Toyota Tundra Tacoma 2007-2019 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08KXVLM1Q?_encoding=UTF8

Almost half the price of the pop lock, took 45 minutes or so between raindrops to install. I soldered the connections in the cab. I also have 2 extra actuators on hand (was going to fabricate on my previous truck but got aggravated) should the provided one give me trouble. Easy to do and well worth the price.

Agreed. If you search enough, you can find them a little over $100. The quality, the perfect instructions and the plug and play parts make it worth the little it extra. Probably one of the easiest installs I've done. Last I heard on other boards, even though the Toyota OEM parts kit PK3B6-35JS0 says it is for 2019-2021, it fits and works 2016-2021.

ordering one today, we'll see how it goes. I have a 2014 so i don't think the OEM version will work for me

Fairly certain that the OEM works on all third gen Tunnies
