    Thieves will steal anything. That's why I have a lock on mine. You can put a 2nd lock on the chain as well....anything to slow them down.

    No, if you lower your spare, you will see that tab with the hole sticking up through one of the lug nut holes. I put a lock there, and then one on the chain once it was raised.
