I personally don't have time or space to grow a decent vegetable garden. Wish I did. Let's see what you all have going on!!

First sprout of the year! Sweet corn that just came up about a day and a half ago. I initially planted the gardens in early May once it'd stopped freezing, but then we had a violent windstorm which beat the hell out of them, even though they were covered with mesh. I kept watering just in case, but they were a lost cause. I replanted about two weeks ago and now we're off and running! Two more corn sprouts have also joined this one since it popped.

    Corn Sprout.jpg

I also planted carrots, lettuce, spinach, beets, cucumbers and scallions.

The story will be sappy, but I thought I would include how this all came to be.

Ok so in 2016 when I finally said, "I need some stress release" from my sales careers I decided I would change my lifestyle and carve out some much needed family time.
So I decided, I would buy my first truck (Tacoma) and begin outdoor activities. These have included, mountain biking, camping, gardening and this Christmas the kids, wife and I will open our first bow sets!

It has really helped me get closer to my family as a whole. Just something about nature and getting hands on with things and showing my boys the stages of the garden growth has been amazingly therapeutic and the bonding has been priceless.

So this first set of pictures is how the garden began, a converted the 12x12 sandbox, to the larger true attempt at gardening and you'll see what is coming in 2018 and what should be the final size of garden that I'll be working with for hopefully years to come.

Foodporn will be in the following post!

    Humble Beginnings

    2 Strawberry plants
    Row of Carrots
    Bunch of yellow beans
    Single tomato plant

    IMG_20170409_1430579.jpg IMG_20160606_160244.jpg

Just like the plants - the garden itself grew!

Strawberry plants became a bush and will dominate the sandbox as their own
    Carrots
    Yellow and Green beans
    Chili Peppers
    Cherry Tomatoes
    Green Peppers
    Pumpkins
    Onion
    Lettuce
    Cucumber
    Sweet Corn

Do you stagger their growth or plant and harvest all about same time?

Plant at the same time just dig them at the end of September to the first part of October.
We froze 112 dozen of sweet corn also and canned a load of green beans. We have stuff from our garden all year long never eat vegetables from a metal can. Kids love to help pants but not harvest. Lol

We have a couple elevated Gardens. Herbs, peppers, jalapeno, cilantro, peas, tomatoes, lettuce, cucumbers.

It's nice to not have to buy basil, dill, oregano, parsley, tomatoes and lettuce for the summer.

    These guys like the dill.

Was outside letting Tuco sunbathe a bit and realized how much my yard grew from June of 2020 to June of 2021. I'm putting in proper sprinklers this weekend and will try to grow grass if it isn't too late in the year.
    PicsArt_06-21-12.05.20.jpg PicsArt_06-21-12.06.50.jpg

Tuco is more than double the size as well.

White Clover is awesome to mix in with grass. It has a ton of benefits to the yard. I started planting it a few years ago in our backyard, it's awesome. I've seen my clover start sprouting in as few as 4 days with regular watering.

    Resists dog pee staining too!

Thats a pretty good idea. I'm gonna look into that, thanks! I have some sort of mini clover that takes over the dirt area between plants, but it doesn't seem to grow in the grass.

Here it is taking over a spot next to my porch.

I went to a grass/clover (mix myself) in our back. Anywhere that gets a dead spot now, I plant with clover and it's green in 2 weeks. When we redo our front yard shortly, I'm going to do about 80/20 (clover to grass). 1/4 the water, survives drought, less cutting, germinates quickly, attracts bees/bugs/butterflies etc, super soft to walk on. As you can tell...I love the stuff.

That clover batch you posted above looks awesome.

Here's what my clover/grass mix looks like.

We have a couple gardens going, inside areas fenced to keep deer out. Quite a bit of stuff deer don’t like, in areas outside of the gardens, like the squash and artichokes. Pretty good success right now with the peas and lima beans. Doing succession planting with stuff like bok choy, fennel, and basil. Planted hops in several spots, hopefully will supplement my beer brewing. Not a garden, but I got a nice little orchard going with 21 hazelnut, 2 apple, 2 cherry, 2 plum and a pear. Also added a currant bush. All these fruit trees are “fruit salad” trees with multiple varieties grafted to a single root stock. The property already had 2 huge ancient apples and a really big old pear.
I will try to get some pictures tomorrow.
