Hi everyone. My name is Mike and I'm new to the Tundra world, not Toyotas though. I previously had an FJ Cruuser and I currently also own a 97 FZJ80. I don't own a Tacoma yet, but I'm considering buying one for a daily driver/ family Vaca rig. I found this one in GA and was wondering what you all thought. Whoever owned this previously was obviously into the truck so I'm guessing they might have been a member here. Please let me know what you think. Also, is there anything I should watch out for with these trucks? Any known quirks?

Seems a little high on price for a 91K mile truck. Already has some mods done so that's a plus. As with any used vehicle, does it have a carfax ? Look well at the undercarriage too. Good luck with all......

Thanks Lenny. I forgot to mention, and I'm not sure if it's in the description, but it has a supercharger.

Now that's not a bad thing, but that in itself leads you to do a thorough inspection. How many owners on the truck, was it Toyota installed etc etc....

Honestly I don't know yet how many owners or the background of the truck yet. I havent even seen it in person since it's in GA and I live in TN. My brother in law is one of the finance managers for the dealer and sent this to me. We haven't started to wheel and deal yet, so I don't know how low they'll go on the price yet. However, like you said, it's had some mods done already so I'd imagine the previous owner was a member here or a similar forum.

    Welcome!
They rhino lined it all over it looks like lol. I know they had some TSB's done for 2011 to include a thunk noise when coming to a stop.
Regarding the SC- be sure to see when/who installed it and look into it it's been serviced.

Does the TSB have to do with the rear driveshaft? Just curious because it sounds like the same one the FJs had due to the slip yoke shaft sticking and then releasing after a stop which caused the clunk. Almost like you got lightly rear ended.

Yea, whoever definitely went a bit overboard with the rhino liner. Doesn't look bad from the side, but the tailgate, hood, and grill/bumper areas need to be addressed.

Not sure how accurate it is, but here is a list of 2011 Tundra TSB's.

Unless you really like the look I would keep looking. I bought a 2017 with 9 miles for only $4500 more than the one you linked. The SC is worth a bit more if it's been taken care of.

So I got some more information today. The supercharger was originally installed when new from the dealer, when it was traded in it had a small whine so the whole thing was rebuilt and reinstalled by a Toyota dealer. It has a spacer lift in the front, looks like 1.5" to level with Bilstein shocks. It also has the TRD big brake upgrade.

Since you're past the 5/60 mark, is there an extended warranty included to include the SC?

Also- all SC's whine...not sure what they are specifically talking about. Must have been something else.

A little different input but I always shy away from family purchases even though not a private sale in law still works for seller. I'm just saying it could get awkward.

If I get the truck it comes with a 3/36 extended warranty for the engine/trans and supercharger. I've heard the truck now and it sounds as it should, at least through video. I was told that it had a slight bearing sounding whine when it was traded in which is why it was rebuilt.

I feel the same way usually and would normally walk for that reason. I do trust this family member though. On the other hand, both of my brother in law's are car salesman and I wouldn't take a free car from the other one. This one was one of my best friends growing up and we've bought and sold cars back and forth for each other multiple times.

Coming with the power train warranty will set you at ease a little. Another thought I had, both super charger and big brake kit, was the truck possibly used to tow a big ass trailer ? That in itself puts extra wear on the engine, trans, diffs, bearing, suspension etc. Or it's possible it was just set up for street speed and not much to worry about. Anything new or used is a gamble, just follow your gut. Good luck...

Great question. Would answer the trailering issue.
But, SC, with a warranty. If everything else looks clean. ???
