Hi fellas! I have a new set of Billy 5100's on my desk at work for all four corners of my '13 CM. I plan to set the fronts on the middle setting but I'm just a bit nervous....or maybe skeptical is a better term. I've installed several sets of these on other trucks without any problems, I have all of the proper tools and a wall mounted spring compressor. It wasn't until I ordered mine however, that I started reading about clip failure and welds breaking. The all knowing world wide interweb is full of threads about 5100's collapsing, clips slipping out of their groove, stem and eyelet welds breaking. I know some failures were due to operator error, but it seems that many were not. I would like to think that Bilstein is producing a quality product and I believe that they do, but in the back of my mind there's that little bit of doubt. So, for you guys that have had them or have them now...thoughts? Opinions? Am I just over thinking this?

Honestly, you'll see bad reports on every single product out there. More bad than good even on a reputable brand.

You forget, we live in the age of bitch and whine.

You've had great experiences on your past billies, I haven't heard one bad thing about them on this site....I'd say you're good to go. Get out of your head and enjoy!!

From what I understand, Bilstein 5100 have had a few failures a few years back. They redesigned it and failure seems to be pretty rare now. If you just purchased them (you got the redesigned ones), I would not be concerned with their quality.

Thanks Steve & Law. Yeah, I got the notification on my Steelers page of Dan passing last week, sad day, but I'm sure they're in good hands with ART II. I'm sure my neighbors here in Green Bay were wondering why my Steelers flag was at half staff lol. I was kind of thinking I was getting too much into my own head with this. I make my living modifying others vehicles so I know all about the age of pissing and moaning LOL! To be honest, most of the failure reports that I read came from another Tundra forum and most of those threads were relatively old but I did read a few that were much more recent. It's just my nature to overthink that kind of stuff. Ultimately it would be nice to do Icons or Kings but I have two hunting trips to pay for this year...priorities :)

Out of the hundreds they sell per month or even weekly, a few aren't even that significant. I got toytec BOSS 3/1 and it's obviously a good brand, but still heard a few bad reviews. They had a guy on here whose coils broke within a month of buying them, customer service identified them as a bad batch and sent him new ones free of cost and even paid for his return shipping costs! All in 3 days over the weekend. That more than made up for their mistake.
I've even seen bad reviews on Fox shocks and those are the top brand. Ain't no thang but a chicken wang! LOL

I don't blame you on the trips taking priority! I'm the same way! Luckily, my boss purchase came right at the end of deer season hehehehehe (timing is also everything!)

Thanks Law, you're exactly right! The bad ones are too few to warrant the worry. I'll get 'em on this week, align it and enjoy the ride. I'd love to do a Boss 3/1 but unfortunately I'm limited to leveling thanks to my garage. At stock height with my sunroof up, I barely clear the header. I figured I better spend some tax money on the truck now, CO elk, NE mulies and then home to PA for deer is gonna come quick LOL

    There you go, Greg!

I don't have a garage.....guess I'll have to buy a house that fits my truck when time comes LOL priorities!!:cool:

You ain't wrong on spending your tax money now before it goes straight to those trips!
I'd love to head up to PA for some of those monster deer! Sadly, I haven't gotten to go on many of those over the years, I make do with our southern white tails!!

We're trying to sell right now, but the new house will definitely have a taller garage...the house is hers, the garage is mine lol

I'm pretty sure that's the usual marriage contract setup. Can't forget the BBQ pit! That's ours too!!

Have had em' on the front, set at the mid-setting, and am happier than a pig in mud with them. Only annoying thing to this point is I didn't do the rears at the same time. Damn good product so far...

Have the fronts set middle with a shim and rears. Truck is level and rides nice; stiffer but good as the ladies say.

I also have the 6112's (same clip design) and no issues. I also have heard there were some failures years ago but they fixed it and I haven't heard of anything bad since. The 5100's are on thousands upon thousands of vehicles. I wouldn't worry about it at all.

Thanks guys! I put them on this past weekend and had it aligned Tuesday, so far so good. I put them on the middle setting so that I can still get in the garage. Love the look and the ride!

HI I have used 5100's on my fronts and rears for a number of years. The fronts are set on the 2nd groove, the only issue I had was 2 of the fronts blew the seals at different times over the years. Bilstein replaced them for free after I sent them to the distributor. I noticed the 2016 versions have much larger eyelets where they mount on the lower control arm now. I run my truck over some pretty rocky terrain by the way.

    More on the way
I have had a set on my 07 tundra for 4 years with zero issues. They were so good I just put a set on my 16 crewmax yesterday. slightly stiffer than stock but the new 18in wheels give a softer ride than the stock 20s so they balanced out to keep the ride basically the same
