Favorite bourbon/ whiskey...

This is the first time I’ve seen the Bowman Brothers in my area. I’ve been on the lookout for this since several of you recommended it. It’s definitely a keeper.

 

Someone just told me about this brand recently, so I’ve added it to my list. Apparently they’re tied to Buffalo Trace somehow.

 

They are all owned by Sazerac. Bowman is a twice distilled BT mash bill then a 3rd time and bottled in Fredericksburg Va. the single barrel John J Bowman is my favorite of the 3 I have tried. In fact I think it tastes better than a regular BT.

 

I decided I’d better stock up on two more since they’re only $31 each. I’m sure they will go up in price as they gain more popularity.

 

Not my *favorite* but one I absolutely enjoy from time to time. I even had the pleasure of visiting the distillery in Utah on a work trip!

Sazerac is grossly overrated.

 

These aren't distilled here, so it's odd that they call it a "distillery."

This is a generic Kentucky bourbon that is bought in bulk and finished in Park City, UT.

I agree with you.. not bad, not amazing. Middle of the road stuff.

 

Today on my way to a weekend in Capital Reef National Park, I stopped at this tiny hole of a liquor store in Bicknell, Utah.

Found a bottle of Buffalo Trace (rareish out here) and a bottle of Blanton's.

This is the second bottle of Blanton's I've found at retail (~$60) in the last 3.5 weeks.

I remember thinking “wow this is a small distillery” — that makes a lot of sense. Almost seemed more event focused, the booze was free so I’m not complaining

 

I usually don’t care for Japanese whisky… but a buddy of mine brought over some of that 12 year stuff… boy was it good! Cheers!

 

Went all Islay and had to try the new Port Charlotte. If you know about Scotch you know it's a love hate relationship with peated whiskies. My top Islay is still Lagavulin then Laphroaig.

 

Yes very love hate! Lagavulin is an acquired taste….. I have had other Islay but Lagavulin is probably my fave….. try to keep a bottle on hand at all times

I'm a Lagavulin 16 fan too. Good stuff that lasts because newbies and cheerleaders won't touch it.

 

Just picked up a bottle of Angel’s Envy. Looking forward to giving it a try.

Impressive finds! I live 45 minutes from these distilleries and have never seen a birthday bottle or the Eagle Rare 17YO at retail. Secondary market has killed it here in KY.

If you ever open the ER I'm interested in hearing your thoughts on it. I've heard mixed reviews from some buddies but ER 10yo is my daily sipper so I have a hard time believing the 17yo doesn't taste like heaven.

I have been seeing more and more of the Old Elk but never tried it, let us know when you do.

 

That Smoke Wagon is really nice, with ice and without. Too bad we can not get it over here on the east coast, randomly it will show up in some stores but doesn't last long enought..

 

Same here. Was the last bottle on the shelf so I figured I’d give it a try.
