Hello fellow truckers with unparalleled taste in brand loyalty! I've owned nothing but Toyota since getting my license 25 years ago. I just bought a 2008 Tundra Limited with 95,000 miles and this one owner truck was pampered! The perfect combo of luxury and practical utility. For those times with I cringe at the gas station, I also have a Prius for when I need simple fuel efficiency over power and it helps balance out practicality at both ends of the spectrum.

I'm not into crazy mods and to be honest, this truck has pretty much everything I want and need. I would like to replace every single exterior light, even parking and turn signals, to the latest and greatest (and brightest) off-road LEDs. I have the bulb numbers from the owners manual and I'm not looking to replace entire headlights, just the bulbs. It doesn't mention what this model currently has installed. Can I buy LED bulbs for all the lights or do I need those conversion kits?

    Any help is appreciated!

    With thanks,

    MiRo

Welcome from Ca. You'll likely find people flashing their High beams at you when you replace the headlight bulbs. The stock headlights produce a lot of scatter which tends to annoy on coming traffic. Brighter bulbs will likely exacerbate the issue. This is what lead me to retrofit headlights. Best of luck whatever you decide.

Welcome. You can certainly replace your headlight bulbs with either LEDs or HIDs. There are downsides to either.

LEDs tend not to have the "punch" on dark roads as do halogens. Signs and road markers will light up like christmas trees, but the actual ability to see non-reflective hazards will be diminished.

HIDs are hella bright, but the scatter will drive other drivers batty, and the uneven distribution and shadows will drive YOU batty.

Retrofits are your best option here which involves the installation of projectors which are specifically designed for HIDs.

I haven't had any of that yet. What comes standard on a 2008 Tundra Limited? Does anyone know? The headlights are "aimed" perfectly and are level. So I haven't had anyone flashing me yet. I was going to try brighter bulbs and I'm assuming they're halogen. Do I need any kind of adapter for LED? Hopefully I won't get flashed. What's involved with retrofitting?

The last thing I want is any reflective signs, road markers, etc being lit up like a Christmas tree. I can't stand that. Obviously I'd rather reduce that and increase the visibility of non-reflective hazards first and in doing so, not blind oncoming traffic.

Halogens, LEDs, HIDs, the type means nothing to me so long as I can achieve the goal of the brightest and whitest light with as much horizontal visibility and depth as possibility without blinding oncoming traffic or myself with reflections from signs and road markers. I'd obviously like to keep the costs down too so if I don't have to retro anything, that's preferred.

I'd also like to replace the reverse/back up lights, brake lights, parking lights, turn signals, etc (basicslly every external light source) with the brightest option available (LED?)...

TheBeast has a good suggestion for a source. I don't know anything about LED bulbs, though I've switched out a few of mine. For reverse lights I'm gonna install:
    https://www.amazon.com/Light-Flush-...5&sr=8-1-fkmr2&keywords=offroad+town+Led+pods
I'm waiting for the bumper recall "fix" before I install 'em. While I was trying to find the above link, I saw a lot of new pod styles.

Welcome from another 08 limited owner with 43500 miles and counting ..If you want to keep it simple and cheap . Try Sylvania silver star bulbs in hi/lo and fogs. That is what I have now. I have put them in all of my vehicles. You can always go a different route down the line.

I did check out the suggestion TheBeast gave at vleds.com and found some decent reverse and brake lights but it was iffy for turn signals and headlights. I'm going to look more though.

I like your suggestion so I'll add those to the rear bumper as well. I'd like a second set to go up with the cargo/bed lights are. Mainly because I can manually flip the on from the switch inside the truck. I like that option for those wonderful folks who love to tailgate me with their brights on. I can flip those beauties on in their face for a little instant revenge and hope they get the message.

    Thanks for the link!

Thanks for the tip. Do you know if they offer an off-road version? JC Whitney used to sell off road bulbs but I don't see any now. If not, I'll take a look at the bulbs you recommended in their brightest and whitest version. Do you have a link for the ones you installed?

How did you manage such low miles? I thought mine was low! There were several for sale with lower miles, but now we were talking over $25,000 and for that kind of money, the truck must be perfect. I found the perfect color scheme inside and out, the 6.5' bed, and with the limited, every option under the sun.

Welcome and congrats. 2008 Limited was the top dog back then, so it came with all the luxury items (Platinum was introduced in 2010).

If you want functional improvement in illumination, halogen bulbs are difficult to beat. I have Philips CystalVision and led DRL installed. They look to be equally bright from the front. But illumination doesn't even come close. Even the LED replacement bulbs are not stellar in illumination.

    From the front:

    Illumination just with the LED.

    Illumination with CrystalVision (Low beam)
