Looking for recommendations on tint for front windows- also wondering if those with tint have been ticketed. Thanks.

completely depends on your state law. And yes, some states aggressively ticket for tint violations. I live in VA and many years ago they were ballbusters about any tint or mods. They would pull you just to check it out. Got more than one ticket for tint or other items. Fast forward many years and now they really do not care unless you are being pulled for something else and they want to add on violations.

Not sure if this is the most recent law info, but will get you started https://www.californiacarlaws.com/window-tint/

One tint ticket with front windows at 20%

Currently have 5% all around and yet to be ticketed for it.
5% is annoyingly dark at night. Eventually I’ll pull it off and replace it with 20%.

I'm a ways away but I always go 50% on the windshield. But I do run Legal 35% on the front two roll downs. :)

When I was driving through Victorville a few weeks backs I saw a bunch of trucks with dark tints on the whole front windshield. Not legal but they obviously didn't care. But if I lived down there I would probably do it too cuz it was hot AF.

Unpopular opinion-anything lighter than 15% is a waste of money. I can't speak to CA but in TN tint law is rarely enforced. I'll never own a vehicle without illegal tint.

Agree with the person above that 5% is too dark at night. I have 5% on my front windows and it can be really difficult to see out of at times. 15% is the sweet spot.

on my old Dodge Ram I had 25% or so on the front side windows, and limo tint on the rear cab windows and rear window, I believe California allows up to 30% so I wasn't really over, but I would roll down if I saw cops or CHP, I did get a fix it ticket for not having flaps sop I just rolled down my windows when I went got the ticket written off after installing flaps.

my08 has factory tint on the rear, but I will be going limo in the back and 25 or 30 on the front sides

    Too many, but not enough....
Being from SoCal, my experience has been that cops usually leave you alone unless you are otherwise being a moron and they need an excuse to pull you over, or you get pulled over for something unrelated and you are being a dick, then they tack on that tint ticket. I think for the most part trucks fly under the radar. Years ago when i had my 300zx, i got pulled over just for 5% tint, but the car was green in color and sounded like a sherman tank with turbos.......

I have 20% ceramic all the way around. That puts the back windows at about limo tint. With clear ceramic on the front windshield. To me that’s perfect. I can still see halfway decent at night out the front windows. If it’s real dark I’ll roll them down to park.

Each state is different. Here in Oregon max is 35%. I have had 5% ceramic on all windows except the windshield for 12 years without issue but I don't give cops a reason to pull me over and I have disabled veteran plates so maybe that helps. If I were pulled over and the blue line punks did give me grief I'd just pull out the state issued exemption card that I carry in all my vehicles. Wife is red headed and fair skinned and sunburns easily so her doctor wrote to the DMV. Problem solved ;)

There are a couple of local shops here in my area that I go to. I typically go as dark as the state law allows. 50% up front and as dark as I want in back windows for trucks and SUV’s, 35% in cars. This varies state to state. When I was a teenager, I was pulled over at least once specifically for tint. But I think now a days they have more important things to worry about. But definitely something extra they can tack on if they wanted. That’s why I just go as dark as legally possible.

Been thinking about tinting the windshield as well as redoing the other windows with something darker. Every vehicle I have owned has had illegal tint, here in TN, it really isnt enforced unless you go through a tiny town where the cops have nothing better to do.

Tell me more about how you went about this. My son is a ginger, and I tinted the windows illegally for this specific reason, but I didn't know you could get an exemption.

I would think a note from a doctor or dermatologist would work. Some have been known to have waivers for darkness due to vision/migraines.

Your doctor can write a letter stating that she has a sensitivity to the sun and requires minimal exposer from UV rays, Its basically a prescription for dark tint. Check with your local DMV but here in Oregon the state has a medical exemption that allows for dark tint above the state limit of 35%. Its brilliant

5% all around besides the windshield and sunroof.

Love it for daytime driving. Hardly every have to wear sunglasses while driving and i can stare at people at stop lights..

Night time driving is a different story.. lol. most of the time in town trying to turn into businesses or parking lots i roll down the windows because i cant see.
