Hi. New member and prospective Tundra owner. I am looking at a 2008 DC SR5 (5.7L, 4x4). It's got low mileage for its year (70k), and overall very nice. However, it does have rust in the bed in the usual spots above the bed support braces, and the bed bolts themselves show some rust too. I've attached some pictures of the rust. Looking at it from below, I don't see any rust extending out from the braces, and it appears to have been sealed up underneath. I'm looking for opinions on whether I should consider buying this truck. It would be my daily driver, and I do intend to use it as a truck (hauling stuff, some towing, etc.). Is the rust fixable without replacing the whole bed? I'll probably put in a bed mat (and maybe a spray or brush in liner), so I'm not overly concerned with how any repairs might look. They're asking about $20k for this truck, which I think is a bit high, especially with the rust. Any opinions or suggestions would be welcome.

I hate rust, I'd pass. It's a good deal if there was no rust in the bed. If you're willing to get in there and fix it properly and have the proper ability, go for it I would try to get them down on the price though.

Welcome. What part of the country is this truck from? And, what part is it going to be in? What's it look like underneath? For 20k I'd look for something w/o rust.

Thanks everyone. I'm in Richmond, Virginia. CARFAX indicates that the truck is local to this area and has only had one owner. I was thinking about trying to push it down closer to $18k; just not sure if it's worth it to try and fix. I keep my vehicles for a long time, and would want the truck to last.

Ditto on checking out the frame. If OK offer $18K. With the $ saved you can spiff up the bed rust and line it. The low miles is a plus. My 07 currently has 75521 miles on it. (no rust)

It looks like the decision was made for me. When I got there today, it was no longer on the lot. Talked to the lot owner and apparently someone else got in touch with them and wanted to buy it; it was out getting a new spray in bedliner. For the sake of the new owner, I hope the shop doing the liner does the surface prep properly.

Guess I will keep looking. Thanks again everybody.

I got my 13 DC SR5 5.7 trd with 9k on it last Feb. For $28k from the original owner. I found it on CL, buying from a private party will get you more for your money and you can get actual answers to stuff like why the bed rusted like that.

Unless you want to blast it and fully encapsulate in linex or something I'd find another Tundra. There are great deals out there.
