N-Fab bumper with skid plate. 44 inch Ridgid radiance lightbar (red). 4 Rigid radiance fog lights (red). GoRhino side steps. Winjet tail lights.
Hi, everyone. I've owned my Tundra TRD PRO for 9 months now and decided to get involved with the community so here I am. My wife and I are located in Southern California and we purchased our Tundra from a dealership in Riverside, CA. Our purchase came after having looked at several different makes. Our favorite looking truck is the Tundra (big factor for my wife), especially with the right wheels and suspension set up. Reliability was the main factor, however. The fact that the Tundra is a very handsome truck when properly geared was a very nice bonus.
I immediately replaced the tires with Nitto Ridge Grapplers (295 70 18) and noticed rubbing. I removed the front mud flaps that are on the bumper. I then removed the front mud flaps behind the tires. The rubbing was on the front bumper's inner liner. I then tried 1.25" spidertrax wheel spacers and there was still rubbing. I finally removed the front bumper and replaced it with an Nfab M-RDS bumper and skid plate and no more rubbing. I finished off that project with a 42" rigid radiance light bar (red backlight) and 4 rigid radiance (red backlight) fogs lights. It's pretty much the same set up as NitroZ18 Fishing on U2B. I installed some GoRhino RB20 running boards, Winjet tail lights, and led cargo lights and license plate bumper lights.
The truck is great but not perfect. I took it to Johnson Valley in CA for some off-roading and it did well except for one problem. We ascended a hill for about 1/4 of a mile when my transmission temperature warning turned on. The hill had large rocks and wasn't extremely steep. I don't know why the transmission overheated. There were 5 passengers in the truck and we had an ice chest in the back. The only problem I could think of is that I climbed the hill in 4 hi. Maybe it should have been in 4 low? Some help here would be appreciated. Also, I hate the alarm system when I'm washing the truck. If the key is outside the truck it auto-locks and if it's inside the truck it constantly makes this long beeping sound when water runs over the front door handles. Another problem I'm having is with the AC. If the AC was left on when the truck turned off and the truck sits for a day or so, when I turn the truck on the AC makes a clunk sound immediately after the truck starts. The AC works great but that sound is concerning. Another problem is with the windows. Sometimes the front passenger window whines when I roll it down. One more problem is this clicking noise when I am moving the truck and turning slowly or going over bumps. I've read that it may be due to the TRD PRO skid plate?
The truck is great but there are a few problems I've noticed over my 9 month ownership. Thankfully it's under warranty and hopefully none of these issues I'm noticing are serious problems. Any advice is welcome and appreciated.
