    Im looking at upgrading my shocks for better handling when towing and for light off roading situations. I'm not looking for any form of lift unless I go with 6112's in which case I'll use the lowest setting.

    In the research I've done so far I read an article on 4600 vs 5100 saying that they are mechanically identical minus the 5100 boot and ride height adjustability. I read another article saying stock TRD Bilstein suspension IS NOT the same as the Bilstein 4600 shocks but a cheaper version and not as good as the 4600. Does anyone know if this is true?

    Thanks

    No worries man, I know you love your king shocks. Once I get my paws on a Taco I want to go all out. Trying to be economical with the tow pig.

    So here is my experience on the difference between the TRD Bilstein shocks and HD 4600:

    On my Tacoma trucks there was a definite size difference, and a ride difference. Both my 2000/1999 Tacoma trucks shocks started puking oil around 25K miles and rode like crap. That is my expertise on these shocks...and pimpin'.

    To be honest, I have no idea on the Tundra specs. I went to the 6112 from the craptastic TRD CO shocks.

    It's my understanding that the Bilstein (yellow) TRD shock is a 4600. But, checking the the #s on my old ones, they say 48530 rear and 48510 front. So, now I'm confused.

    A little of this and a little of that.
    When I put on shocks it'll be the Toytec Radflo's. I know that doesn't help you but I don't know the difference of what you speak.

    That's what I'm thinking, I'm just trying to figure out if the 5100's are identical to what I have now or if I need to up it 5160's. I don't want to pay extra for something I already have. Lol

    Hard to beat the cost of 6112 fronts and 5160 rears. Only crap thing is you start needing to lift the rear 1", and then get into a shitstorm like I did. My truck towed better with stock suspension.

    The Bilstein 4600 shocks are better than the TRD Bistein shocks IMO.

    So buy your estimation, Stock TRD and the 4600 are NOT the same. (Which is what I'm hearing) I'm going to climb up under my truck here shortly and see if it's listed.

    This seems to be something that isn't well known to TRD owners.

    Old thread here but for info and others search purposes;

    Bilstein manufactures these shocks for Toyota. Toyota is the actual owner of the shocks. if you call Bilstein for parts or information (which I did) they will not help you once you give them the part number. Bilstein has a contract with Toyota and will tell you to go to the dealership.

    The Bilstein that come on the TRD off-road package are 4600's from what I have read.
