Built a mobile stand for my new bandsaw. It is all mortise and tenon. No screws or nails in the base.F3E5B5CF-9EB6-4826-A2FA-5B3FA6961751.jpg0FF22137-CC40-43C5-859A-24D578E3691F.jpg

Work has begun for my clients two story steel garage project. I have two drilling rigs working on the 33x piers per the engineers foundation design.

I had to install a hot wire fence around the site because this Longhorn Bull almost took out my truck a few weeks ago. He had his horns within a few inches of the front of my truck!

Those Longhorns are like extremely large dogs with horns. I've heard them referred to as "Texas Yard Art." I'd like to get me a mini one for our yard...

Some yard art for a librarian friend of mine.

I just made the framework and mounted it.

She had the existing plasma cut steel/ etched glass art work.

Love it....that's the way to go. I used to sacrifice my knees doing helping with others houses when younger. Now, after decades of skiing and knowing my knees most likely have a finite amount of whatever left, they are saved for playing.

Installed a mini-split to add supplemental cooling & heating in my kitchen/dining/living room! I’m amazed at how quiet both the indoor and outdoor units are.

Nothing fancy but a lot of leveling and releveling.

Brick edgers down the gravel driveway/walkway. Relayed and leveled all the pavers a few weeks ago.

Garden area gets finished and cleaned up tomorrow. Once the spruce trees come down, it'll be topsoil, plant clover and wait.

Anyone have suggestions on dealing with driveway cracks? I see the previous owner put something in there which is no longer helping. My understanding is that it's best to try and keep water out so the erosion under the concrete doesn't get worse.

Thank God for family. Being down with a hernia and 12 pallets of blocks and pavers sitting idle, my brother-in-law stepped in to help. Very experienced, plus he has a Kubota, it’s coming along nicely.

Out of curiosity, what brand is that? We've got a Samsung that we love in our master suite...but it's the 'wall wart' kind. It'd be nice (and I'm sure there's no way to do this) if there was a way to replace that with the capsule kind that you installed in your ceiling.

This is a Carrier unit, it does look like Samsung offers ceiling cassettes and I know the indoor unit is somewhat interchangeable. The one I installed comes with the wall Mount as standard, and you can even run multiple cassettes from one outdoor unit. I’ll dig up the model number if you’re interested!

Continuation from 7071. Walls are up and the trusses are on top. Lots of rain again of course, but in a few days it should dry up and they should be able to get the roof sheathing ting on.

We've been packing for awhile now, giving stuff to goodwill, did a garage sale, getting quote for moving, looking at storage units.... This is wearing me out and we have a lot to do. Still maintaining the current house and preparing for sale... This is my last move.... I hope.

from the picture it looks like it has sunk but that could be just the photo. I would rip it out form it myself and have a crew come in and do the pour. When you form it try to ensure you have a tenth of fall for every 10 ft. When poured place your saw cuts every 20 ft.

If you are interested I can provide the concrete detail we use for work. It’s overkill for most jobs but it gives you something to look at when you do the work

That's a bummer. Too many other projects to spend a bunch of money on concrete right now. I think you are correct about it sinking. There is a big oak tree to the side and it think it's roots haven't done any favors. Is it possible to have someone put a layer of asphalt over the concrete, or is that just covering up the issue? I can't imagine what it would cost to replace the entire driveway. Google says it's 79 feet long.

No idea about an asphalt over the concrete. I would imagine if the subsurface is compromised it would end up cracking too. The contractors I have come into contact with around here usually cost around 6.50 a square foot maybe less depending on the contractor but those are straight forward 40x40 pads.

Yeah, $10K+ isn't in the budget right now for concrete unfortunately. That said, I think the cracks are only present on the latter half of the driveway so maybe I could get by only doing a few sections. I'll have to take a closer look. I do appreciate your feedback though. Always nice to hear from someone familiar with this.

I’m with @DaBoro54, better to remove and replace the slab. Asphalt overtop would be a short term solution and those cracks will come back.
That concrete really needs to come up and the soil needs to be graded and packed to give the new slab a nice firm base to hopefully avoid this from happening again.
The good news is that it’ll just be ugly until you have the funds to get it redone, it doesn’t look like a huge safety issue at this point. Maybe grind the lips down on those out of plane cracks if you have little ones running around though.

Good to know. Would it be wiser to have that Oak Removed before redoing the concrete? I've had a few arborists out here to give me quotes to trim it and another tree and they agreed it was probably partly to blame for the current state of the concrete, and would get much bigger.

I would hate for you to loose a tree like an oak but I would say it would need to be removed. Like @Squatting Pigeon said the subsurface the concrete will go on is extremely important. I would definitely mitigate anything that could cause an issue

It honestly needs to go anyways. It's close to the house and powerlines. We just bought this house. Had I been the previous owners I would have never let the tree grow there.

@FirstGenVol getting rid of the tree is only half the fun. You’ll need to get rid of the root system too, because if you drop the tree, grind the stump, and then pour a new slab, that root system will rot over time and create voids in the soil and youll be back to a sinking concrete mess some years down the road.
