So I've got a weird issue with the SE wireless charger tray.

I bought one about two months ago, had been working great. However, three weeks ago I (thought) my friend's girlfriend accidentally broke it. She plopped her phone with a card holder on the back of it and a few cards onto the charger, and before I noticed anything it had been 15 minutes and the charger was lit red and extremely hot. Now, I'm a tech nerd so I know the physics of what happens when you try inductive charging through a magnetic object.

My friend later charged his phone and it seemed to be working fine, so I thought I was in luck and the charger shut itself off like it was supposed to before any damage occured. When I went to work the next morning, my phone kept getting it's charge interrupted. It'd charge for 30 seconds, and then the charger would stop, go from blue back to green, and then 10 seconds later go back to blue and resume charging, and this cycle would repeat. It'd never stay charging, just on off on off etc.

I thought the charger simply died, so I ordered another one. This weekend with the lockdowns I finally had time to swap over the new one, and I'm still having the same issue and I can't figure out why, it's a brand new charger now.

I thought maybe it was my phone or my phone case? So I went back to the case I was using when I recall it working, no difference.

All I can think of, is the day before that trip I got a new phone, the Galaxy s20 ultra. Now, it's a pretty huge phone so I'm wondering if it never worked to begin with because of its size and the coils don't line up right.

Has anyone else had this issue?

Sorry, can't answer your question as I don't have wireless charging..... Yet.

Can you tell me where you bought it from? Or a part number? Is this is factory accessory or aftermarket?

    Hey multimoon,

I also bought the S20 Ultra and have noticed the same charging issue on my wireless charger. I do notice that if it were to find that sweet spot and not move, then it will eventually work. I have another wireless charger in the car that constantly re-activates the wireless charging and neither of these were an issue with my previous S9+ with a case. I was waiting for a new case to arrive in order for me to try it as I was thinking that this was a stability issue with the charging contact constantly moving around. My new case is on pre-order so I'm having to wait until next month for it to arrive.

Whew, thought I killed a fuse somewhere. Hopefully we can figure out how to make it charge.

I tried turning the phone the other way and still have the same issue. I'm wondering if I can relocate the pad on the bottom to a better location.

I can tell you though that it moving isn't an issue, it still does it completely stationary.

I'm thinking because it's such a huge phone the coils on it are in a weird spot.

It’s a heat shutoff. My Tacoma did the same thing. It wouldn’t start charging again u til it was cooled down. If I’m being honest the oem one in my Tacoma was a complete pos. Basically never worked and had issues like you describe.

In this case I don't think it'd be a heat shutoff, considering the charger only runs for 10-30 seconds before restarting.

Also, I've seen the heat shutoff before it starts blinking red until you remove the object.

The newer S20 Ultra has issues with wireless charging in vehicles. Both in my Tundra and my wife's car. My Note 10 would charge without any issues in the Tundra and my wife's iphone charges just fine as well. I read on the Samsung forums this is a known issue. Linked here https://us.community.samsung.com/t5...laxy-s20-ultra-wireless-charging/td-p/1143624

I thought it was due to the S20 Ultra's camera bump out, so I did purchase a case to flatten it out, however same issue. It cylces on the Tundra charger.

Yeah, my new case didn't really work for me either. Ended up returning for different reasons but even without a case, the issue was still there. Especially, with the center console installed from SE Toyota. As stated before, no issues with wireless charging with my gf's Note 9 and case. Some think that this could be fixed with a software update. I did receive an update push yesterday. Haven't tried using with the car wireless charging yet.

The factory wireless charger in my 2018 Tacoma didn't work worth a crap either. I'm reluctant to buy one for my Tundra because of this.
I will stick to wires for now.

Just to clarify, I didn't have an issue with the wireless charger but with the S20 Ultra. All other wireless charging phones (S9 Plus, Note 8, Note 9, iPhone 10) with and without cases worked.

Unique to SE toyota dealers. Its a pretty new part I think, released last year. My biggest con is the fact that every time you turn the truck on, the charger turns on. At least in the Tacoma, it would stay off if turned off. At least it blinks lights when turning on to grab your attention.

My Tacoma had the wireless charging and my iphone was always finicky about hitting the sweet spot. Seems better on the Tundra for sure. My phone sits perfectly and charges well. I use a UAG case. Since the charger has an inline fuse, I would suspect any major issue would blow that fuse, and since you replaced the whole thing (I assume wire harness as well) I would guess its a phone thing. Maybe try finding a friend with an iPhone (11 pro, 10, 10s) and see if it works ok. I say those because they are smaller and have a bit more wiggle room.

Want to re-open this older thread, same issue as the OP with a 2020 tundra wireless charger. It just cycles constantly, I have a samsung ultra s21 it worked fine with it for the entire time until last week. It started the cycling, I am trying to remember but cannot if my phone did a major software update right before it quit working. Was any resolution ever found to the cycle problem?

So from what I can tell this happens from software updates. Just had my Note 20 5G get a software upgrade and now it cycles on the charger. Used to do this a few upgrades back but it fixed itself upon the next upgrade. So I'll wait and see I guess.

So basically Samsung said "Kiss Off" and locked out non-samsung certified chargers and my truck that worked fine everytime no longer works.

I must have clicked on post instead of writing. My S20 Ultra doesn't really charge properly with the wireless console charger. The darn thing goes on and off and pretty much kills the phone battery instead of helping. I switched from high speed charging to slow in my phone settings but the darm charger goes on and off. My wife's iPhone works fine. I think I just need to purchase a different phone.

No, my Samsung Galaxy Note20 5G is also acting up. Two uppdates ago really messed it up. Haven't jumped into an android forum yet to try and resolve.
