Delivery time 2021 factory orders.

How long did it take to get a vin# after you guys ordered the truck.I ordered a trd pro on 4/12/21.They gave me a build sheet with all the options. But it doesn't have a vin number.Still dont have vin# and was told with chip shortage its pushed back a month.

 

VIN is assigned once the dealer secures an allocation to my knowledge.

A build sheet with no vin is just the request made by dealer to distributor - basically the wish list. In turn - once an allocation is made, the distributor gives the dealer an allocation sheet - the confirmation that a vehicle with the listed port adds will be allocated to them - this sheet has a build VIN (the one with a letter in place of one of the last 6 numbers).

Time between submission and allocation depends on dealer/distributor. Could be a day - could be 5 months. A dealer typically will know WHEN they are in line for allocations (change monthly is my understanding) - so if they already used say June allocations up and got extra - they know they might get another in July or possibly not till August.

 

It’s my understanding that Toyota is not taking special orders but rather has a set list of what they are going to build. It is then up to the dealer to obtain future builds which then get allocated to that dealer. In my case, my dealer had several months of allocations and then matched me with what they had coming in. Putting a deposit down then secured that allocation to my name.

Correct - you cannot “spec” a build.. you get what they have scheduled to build.

Allocation though is limited on most vehicles- some more than others. For example a dealer cannot just say give me 100 tundras - they get so many to sell per month. If a customer is a pre sale - they can request that vehicle by showing a sales slip and Toyota will work to accommodate the order and factor into their allocations.

The matching is to scheduled builds not already sold elsewhere. Not dealer specific.

 

Yes, you are correct. My main point is that you can’t go into a dealership and simply order a truck with your options to be built. It’s either already in the pipeline or future pipeline that the dealer can try to get or it won’t happen.

 

Got my army green 1794 last Friday just under a month from when they told me. I love it!!

The new truck is in town. A few more parts to be added by the dealer and I should own this Tundra by next mid-week.

Just checking to see if anyone has a existing order for a Lunar Rock Trd pro?I placed my order on April 15 and still dont have a build date from the dealer.I am beginning to think it may not happen.

 

I would be getting nervous at this point if you don't have an allocation. What is your dealer saying?

 

The inventory manager said she is 100% sure she is getting me the truck.But but she cant give me a build date or vin number.

 

Hmmm...that would probably make me feel better. It took a couple months to get my allocation and the inventory manager had the same stance and my truck eventually showed up. Hopefully the same for you.

 

We have a TRD Pro coming...dealer got an allocation we were first in line now it's reserved in our name.
Sent the window sticker with VN #
Due to be built on the 18th delivered sometime in early Oct.
As of last Friday we were still good to go and not on any cancelled list.

My build day 8.20 and just got word it will arrive 9.7-9.13.
