Staking my corner to quarantine my lift and wheel size ravings.

    2005 double cab, 4x4, 300,000km (sub 200k miles) for 5,000 canuckistanian credits.. because I'm a damn savage..

Watch as I violently try to strap, weld, ziptie, duct-tape and threaten my tacoma aftermerkert junk onto this poor truck.. What's the difference between tundra specific 5100s +OME886 springs, and the set I have strapped to the taco?.... well.. one I own, one I don't..

    This might get ugly folks.

Nice build, made it about 6 pages in, skimming fir brake diagrams, I can tell I'll be plagiarizing your work more than a bit. Already know I need to do the window jorb, had a good stream coming down the interside of things when I took it to the carwarsh.

Appears to have an add-a-leaf of some kind, and the forward rake is quite steep.

horror of horrors, it's got quick-struts.
very tempted to try throwing some tacoma 886s in there, but should likely wait until I fabricobble some means to stick the Arb on there first..

Help yourself and spread the good word everywhere you go. This place has helped me tremendously. Took a while, but she is tight and dialed in again and yours will be, too.

Officially my truck, safetied, registered, and plated.. Too late for tag backs from the poor old soul who sold it to me. My song has been sung, no turning back!
Day one nearly done, and it is shiny underneath it all..IMG_20210611_210103.jpg

And because, well, because I wanted to know..
    33s
    IMG_20210611_190216.jpg

unless these came with quick-struts, I assume these are aftermarket ?monroes?.. but they cannot be any higher than stock, didn't think I'd get very far, but they are in and after taking driver mudflap off, I can only make it rub at full lock.. Test drove around my small, hilly, tight laned town, and am not taking them off, and not just because the only other options are two sets of winter tires.
    IMG_20210611_190119.jpg IMG_20210611_184238.jpg IMG_20210611_195431.jpg

I was also eyeballing the tacoma springs, have stock tacoma springs, and 886s.. but these monroes are garbage, and am already hunting down some tundra 5100s, or 5112s (someone please weigh in on the holy difference)

I've had 5100s on the taco forever, and am almost loyal.. Hoping on some compatibility with my existing springs, but am likely out to lunch..

33s, and an tacoma Arb bumper with warn vr8000, and very likely a second battery.. If you feel strongly about the best setup in front for carrying weight, feel free to make your case..

Already found the hack'n'slash Arb fitment on another thread here, and am inspired, and even moved.. I wonder if I may have found my people..

If I'm lucky, I'll dry fit my old sony xav-601bt and start looking at the sound system that was 'installed' previously.. There is a decent sub/amp under the rear seats, but the pioneer deck seems to be playing from exclusively the driver door tweeter... -shrugs-

either way, gotta pump the tunes to drown out the km2s... or the bearings, whatever that racket is..

    For the tire nerds..
    255/85r16
4 5/8" backspace, which is exact match to the rims which were on it.. will check the toyota rims that also came with the truck and see if they are any different..

ill add photos when i find the internet again, but just an update on truck.

I just finished water pump job, changed everything on the way out.. 350,000km (kanuck miles)
timing belt, pretty sure wasn't original... pretty sure..

one of the o-rings has been on it's way out since before i bought it, took me a radiator or so to figure out..
slow leak until it boils over and the pressure spike is nuts. Best symptom is weird behavior from heater core, which i think is the highest branch in the coolant maze and won't throw heat until the t-stat opens..

ordering parts for these 05/06double cabs is tricky, or at least not straight forward..

I scratched the surface, so here's story time. Needed new tail light housings since i bought it, but was getting away with clear gorilla tape and tuck tape. Eventually caved and had my local Napa order me a set. 500+ .. They were the wrong set, and the parts folk couldn't come up with a listing. Eventually figured out to go to the autobody people. At the same time priced out gas tank straps, another 300+..

Went for a think on the throne and pulled up my local classified and saw an 06 limited, figured I'd go check it out and see if there were any good take off parts, and immediately see that it had been rear ended; smashed out tail lights, knocked the gas tank virtually clean off. They guy only wanted 1500 for it, but i started explaining that i didn't have the stones to drop all my weed money on the parts I needed AND a parts truck. Buddy starts to smile and opens the back door. Still in the plastic 2x brake lights and 2x tank straps..

I dickered him to 1200 and shook his hand.

I'll get tailgate, leather interior, stock rims and my parts, plus whatever mechanicals I need. Already stole a 10mm acorn nut doing the timing belt etc job.

Roundabout way of ordering parts, I know, but if he's gonna throw in a truck, I guess I'll support local.

So I just put in a new set of 5100s, another local kijiji deal, but didn't come with springs, had to reuse the monroe springs. 3rd circlip setting. gives me probably about an inch lift,.... but it was fully squatted before, so no reference..

Added a pair of 5160s in the rear, removed the 2 piece leafs(broken bottom leafs, i think it's common) and traded them for a pair of 2500 leafs.. I want to add another leaf on each side, the rear is an inch off the bump stops.. Maybe I should pull the leaf-springs off the donor truck and frankenpack something together.. I have a few hundred pounds in the bed always, and drive washboard almost as always.

I still have to install ignition coils, carrier bearing/ujoints, driver cv axle, and I have another transmission wiring harness to solder in, err... ya..

My transmission let go, it was a corroded pin in the connecter which passes through the transmission case.. That was a fun job.. My replacement female (external) harness had a wire fall out the back of the harness, so I'm swapping that out too.
annnnd driver cv axles pops ?out? while working hard in 4x4.. I guess the circlip could have been missed/grenaded.. maybe it only slips while I'm turned sharp.. I'm trying to convince myself the front diff is fine and the cv axle was installed by morons.. doing their best...I do have a spare front diff, but that looks like a big job..

Swapped over the leather seats from the limited tonight, have to grab the switches in the morning... or the whole damn wood grain centre console, I assume the power seats borrow power through the heat switch.. I hope anyway.. My 05 sr5 even had fuses in the seat control/heat locations.. seatbelt wiring worked immediately, but no controls to the captains chair.. Hoping I can steal the 06 head unit mounting hardware, and the wood grain bezel to finish off the Sony install. new shoes feeling

I'll be back with photos, sorry I forgot I started a thread..

Yes to the mini projectors, that is an easy and highly worthwhile upgrade.
