I went to my Toyota dealer this afternoon to give him a chance to appraise my trade before my Tundra comes in (eta 06/15ish) I got to the dealership and was waiting for my rep and the used car guy when a carrier drove past the front window and on the top rear of the carrier was a White 4X4 CM with gunner wheels just like the one I am waiting for and I said to myself WOW that would be great if that was MY Tundra... Long story short it was...So we did ppwk and MV stuff and I will pick it up after they install the TRD dual exhaust with black chrome tips....I mean literally 3 minutes after I got there so did my truck...Pics... so it did happen...BTW the 20" gunner wheels with Nitto Terra Grapplers look friggin awesome...

So I intend to keep this truck for a long time...(until beyond Thunderdome) what are opinions on the extended warranty packages. Normally I don't do anything with x warrs for anything but this one is Platinum bumper to bumper for 10yrs/100K for $2800... Thoughts? Alot of $2000 to $3000 things can go wrong and if you blow a motor of tranny (transmission/transfer case) you can really break the bank...Coverages can be adjusted too... Anybody do it?

Congrats Mike. I did the platinum. 10years/100000 miles. I had the same one on my 20204Runner Pro and canceled it to get almost back what I paid till I got my new tundra Pro. I was able to get my extended warranty for $2300 on my 2021 tundra Pro.

Great buy. Good thing you chose the fastest color next to black. Fast enough. Congratulations

I just bought a third party 9 year/110,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty for my used 2019. Cost was about $2100 which added $35/month to my payment. I’m willing to bet I’ll be ahead after 9 years.

You will get lots of opinions on this, but here’s my thoughts; most failures and problems show up within a couple days or a few months at most. The standard warranty covers you pretty well. Second, of all vehicles manufactured, the Toyota Tundra is least likely to have a problem.
There’s lots of people that can tell you about how they were saved by that extended warranty, so it probably depends on how much expendable income you have vs your own comfort level with risk. I have never had any extended warranty and never had any issues

So I agree with you regarding always... that has been my philosophy forever... I never bought an extended warranty in my life...and I never have had any costly repairs...BUT... this one has me thinking

This is why I went with 9 years over 7 years. $5 more a month got me two more years. Probability of issues arising increase every year.

Another thing to consider is the price of these warranties varies based on the brand. Warranties for a more reliable product will be less than those with not such reliable records.

Pickens are slim out there in Tundra land...I would have liked a silver sky Platinum or a Wind Chill 1794... This was about the only thing I could lock in on...The Super White and Charcoal interior works for me...I'm actually ok with the grill but would prefer the white surround, bulge bumper covers and mirrors... I might change my mind once it all gets hit with bugs.

Read the small print, some warranties require specific certified service methods and such. All too often people trade or crash the vehicle and that's what the warranty company is betting on in many cases.

Good advise... And I asked but will verify that it is transferable and refundable for the unused portion of the contract should I want to pursue

Congrats and cool story about how it showed up. My opinion on warranty, we purchased a 4Runner and Tundra so that we wouldn't have to worry about ever using it. I'm still rocking a 2011 V6 Accord with 130k that's never had an issue. They are old Japanese designed simple gas guzzling machines. The only reason they still cost so much and are still purchased when other brands offer more for less is because of their reliability. That is simply the only thing they have over other truck brands.... Not towing, tech, payload, price etc... just reliability lol. I'd only buy a warranty on ours if I had a ton of extra money and wanted some feel goods. But that's all IMO everyone's opinion is different.

I do have one tip for debagging, don't use a heat gun. Yes it makes it easier but it also softens the paint not just the glue. I'm part of other forums as well and have debagged dozens of vehicles, lots of people including myself have lost paint but I've never lost any so long as I didn't heat the badge up. Get plenty of dental floss and double or triple up a line around the fingers before going under the badge, it will be more difficult without the heat but way less risky.
