Yesterday I received and email and phone call from the dealer I bought my truck from. They want to buy my truck from me and give me an "outstanding" standing deal on a new 16 or 17. I had no intention on doing it. I emailed them back stating my terms and conditions as to how I would entertain the idea. I want to pay less per month and not extend my loan. As well as add a few features to the truck as long as its a Crewmax as well. The kicker that got me is I stated I would not put any additional cash down other than what is left over after they buy my truck.

The dealer was adamant that this is not a difficult deal to make if those are my conditions.....Has anyone experienced this? and did it work? I just do not understand how they can upgrade me and prevent me from paying more per month. Especially with no additional down payment on a new more loaded Tundra.......

I really do not want to get rid of my truck. However, some of the new standard features do grab my attention...especially the 38 gallon tank.

jeez... i get this all the time from any dealer i've ever bought a car from... I keep getting them from ford for my '12 F150

I'd imagine they didn't fully read your conditions, especially this.... "no extend my loan" Either that or they're just saying anything to get you in the door and hope they can upsell you once you're there. They just think that a majority of people care about the actual payment rather than their equity in the transaction...

The only way you could lower payments and not extend the loan going from a 15 to a 17 is if they'd accidentally left a few kilos of coke in your door panel on a drug run to mexico...

I get letters from Various Toyota Dealers in San Antonio. They say that my "2007 Tundra" is in HIGH DEMAND ! and willing to give me a higher than Blue Book value on my truck if I purchased a New Tundra. Honestly, it all "marketing gimmicks" to get people in the showroom to buy New Trucks. The dealer "WILL NEVER" give you top dollar for your truck, and if they do, they will never mark down the Dealers Price or "suggested MSRP" for the new Truck. Remember, on each new truck, there is a invoice price, delivery price, Manufactures Suggested Retail Price, and the dealer buy price. Depending on the DEMAND of the truck in your area, the truck could sell right at MSRP or just a couple of thousand off the MSRP.
Remember: The dealer will always make some profit and also the car salesman also wants to make some profit.

When I sold cars for a short period, they had us always go through the past customer database and call customers. That we just HAD to have their current vehicle, that we had a buyer that wanted it. It's just a way to get you to think about a new vehicle and get you in the door. If you hold them to your demands, they'll tell you to piss off. But Good Luck if you pursue it.

Read the small print on the higher than blue book value. The dealer near here in the fine print it says they will pay over the kbb value of a vehicle in either fair or poor condition. So you go in there with a truck in great shape and they look up the value of it as if it's in fair shape and then give you over that so in reality, you are getting actual value of your truck. It's just a gimmick.

Yes, I did the same thing in January of this year. Dealer called me wanting to buy my 2015 and get me into a 2017.

    My trade: 2015 SR5 2wd CM

My terms: No money down, similar payment (I knew the payment would have to go up some based on what I wanted), loan not extended

Desired truck: 2017 Limited 4wd CM

    Outcome: got $8K over payoff + $5K check + $2.5K below sticker

In my scenario, it was during the Toyotathon sales event. My dealer told me they only needed 1 or 2 more sales to "hit their number" for a big bonus. So, I suspect they took a loss on my trade bc the bonus they got would make up for it. I don't know for sure, but honestly, I didn't care.

It is probably worth pursuing. Just stand your ground. If they really want the sale, they'll pretty much do exactly what you want. If not, you still get to drive away in a Tundra you already love.

In my case..one dealer misquoted me and would not honer the offer..took it to their enemy toyota dealer who not only honored the deal but gave me a better deal..it was the end of the month and they needed the volume sale kickback bonuses from toyota which was a lot more than their discount on my truck

This is a very common sales tactic. Its number one goal is to get you back into the dealership in person, and they will typically promise just about anything to make it happen. The real negotiation doesn't start until you get there.

I got a letter from my dealer making a ridiculous offer on my 2009 Tacoma. Offer was like $8k less than market. I copied and pasted it in to an email and sent it to their sales director. I asked why they send this crap out and just piss people off. I bought my truck and they know how it is equipped and what the true value is. He apologized and said it was some marketing agency that sends that stuff out. I told him in that case they should fire the agency. He said that they did not have any control over it at the dealer level. In the end it turned out to be a good thing because it got me connected with the top sales dude at the dealer.

I just got this in the mail from Toyota. Looks like it basically says I have to reply for them not to give my info away. Bull crap. I threw it away but maybe I'll send it off.

They will make $5-6k off your truck and can almost break even on the new one giving you an incredible deal. They will not call unless they come out way ahead. But this deal is also nice if you truley want a new truck it gives you some power to finaggle.

nothing wrong with changing or upgrading your car if you want to ... but remember that its a business and no matter how good a deal you think you've made, they will still make a good profit! in the biz world, The customer is always right or is always a loser!? I forget which :)

Looks like you have a 3rd gen, outside of going to a TRD Pro, or you like the 18 model. I would wait for the next-generation. Just my .02. Good luck
