How susceptible are we to the growing number of cyber attacks? Anyone not downloading the app, or that has done away with it because of this?

No thoughts here? Hopefully nothing to worry about, but really it is all vehicle owners that have "Apps" to start, stop, unlock...etc

I don’t have the remote start but I have the vehicle tracking feature that I canceled. It’s too much “monitoring”.

Doesn’t need to be anything connected via wifi. All those with push button remote start should watch this video…

Dang. I remember hearing about the key fob scanners years ago, but didn’t know their tech had improved so much.

The app should have some type of two factor authentication, but it doesn’t to my knowledge. There’s not much PII data in the app aside from your name and truck vin.

If someone were to hack the app or backend systems they’d either want customer data or maybe to start your truck. Maybe while they are at it they could rewrite the code so we can remote start and open the door without it shutting off.

I use the app for remote start and I like to see what Toyota thinks is my driving score. I’m sure “the great hack” is coming anyway regardless if you have this app installed or not :p

I don't have app capability on mine, but as someone who sells cyber security software, I love that you are thinking in this way! So many times we use apps or websites with out a care, but the attackers are out there and willing to do a lot for data to sell.

I've had my '21 for a few weeks now. That thought about the app has crossed my mind. I'm probably not going to keep the service long term, but we'll see. I have no need to remote start my truck via the app. This is the first truck I've had with remote start, and I'm fine with doing it with the remote rather than the app.

You can enable 2fa via fingerprint scanner. Not really a true 2fa for sure but it's better than nothing I suppose.

I'm thinking that to be truly 'safe' it would require pulling the fuse. (I forget what # fuse it is TBH.) But yeah, I canceled the app almost as soon as I got the truck.

The key fob scanner is nothing new. That's how a majority of cars are stolen these days. Plenty of videos of it happening all over the world. They can also scan your garage door code and come clean you out when you're at work.
Sucks, but I don't worry about it too much. I make myself and my stuff as hard a target as possible, but if they want your stuff they'll get your stuff. My truck is rarely left in a place where I worry about it, but if they want to come get it from my driveway then there's not a lot I can do about it. I'm not losing any sleep over it though.

Agree, it’s not like vehicles with key ignition switches never get stolen. Anyone who really wants to steal your vehicle will have it running in less than one minute regardless.
