    Howdy for Texas!

Would love to hear your thoughts on cold air intakes. Favorite brand(s)? over noisy devices?

    Pros? Cons?

    THANKS!!

General consensus is its not worth it. There is a long thread buried around here discussing this in detail.

No improvement over stock for a stock truck, but they can look cool and will have that "intake" sound if you like that. The stock set up is quite good and is a cold air intake.

Not to beat a dead horse but your OEM intake is technically a CAI and lots of folks don't see it worth replacing. You can do the SABM (stock air box mod) which there are threads on if you want to increase airflow from your stock set up. Otherwise most see minimal gains for the cost. By changing your intake you are mainly changing your exhaust sound. If its worth it to you, go for it. Check out the thread mentioned above. Its your truck, enjoy it and love driving it anytime you are behind the wheel.

    Too many…scratch that…not done yet.
I’ll add, if you want to cool the air to the engine...or possibly keep it from getting hotter, checked out the Throttle body coolant bypass as well.

I have the trd CAI. Only reason I bought it because it was in sale for 40% off during the toyota 40th anniversary sale. No performance or gas mileage improvement. Save your money

Build your own if you feel the need. You'll gain almost nothing but the fact that you designed it and installed will give you a nice feeling.

Howdy from TX as well !

While you can make improvements to the existing CAI Toyota designed for our trucks your better off saving money for others mods that are beneficial to your goal.

If your 1st post involves CAI I anticipate SC will follow in due time :boink:

more than I can list here
    Hello,
I would call Keith Carty of Dirty Deeds Industries and pick his brain. No one knows Tundra's like Keith does. He is out of the office most days, but is always available via phone. You can call or text him anytime at 760-877-4234. He does take many calls and texts a day, but is very good at getting back to everyone.

    Thanks, Shawna, DDI

    100% agree on TBCB.

Devil's advocate on the CAI: Stillen makes a system that not only pulls atmospheric air in from your wheel well, but also from the grill. None of the components are metal, so they don't conduct heat, and a cover over the intake box keeps the system from sounding like shit and from pulling engine bay heat in.

CAI didn’t improve my gas mileage, but seems to have made my transmission shifts smoother in conjunction with my modified exhaust

my intake temps were always 90-100F before the stillen intake. Now intake temps pretty much match the ambient air temps. Cooler air going into the engine is better than hotter air. Agreed on no improvement to mileage or power though.

EVEN THE THROTTLE BODY BYPASS is a waste of busting knuckles.
Did it on my WS6 and nothing, nada, no diff of any kind. Doing a rework of the intake system on the WS6 worked nice but, I went up in injector size a bit to see it.( polished / ported MAF ends w/ new MAF and Loudmouth low restriction resonator in place of the factory muffler.
Here's what you change in order of dollar value.
    1. exhaust
    2. Blower
Now your done, go be happy
