I'm new here and somewhat new to Toyota so I need a little help to form a baseline. Several posts up there was mention of $4k and $5k off sticker. Comments followed indicating that's impressive but only because of the current supply/demand situation. I need some of you to put on your "one or two year(s) ago hat" and tell me what a great deal was back then. Via PM one of you said 15% to 18% off of MSRP but I couldn't get a lot of detail (like if rebates were used to reach that or not). I'm not in a rush, I can't buy now anyway because I need a crew cab with a 6.5 foot bed so I'm going to have to wait for the 22 anyway. I'll be looking at a Limited trim level or higher if that makes a difference.

I got like 16 percent off sticker two years ago and based on what I was told here, that was as good as it could get. Definitely can't do that right now

Dec paid 43500, sticker 52300, 0% for 60. Took about 6 weeks haggling in 5 states with about 15 dealers. Finally got it 12 miles from home.

That's what I do as well. I cannot tell you the # of times people have said some variation of "OMG you terrible money-mismanaging person you."

I PURELY get it in the event something goes screwy. I bought my truck last year with a $30K note; and in one year and 2 months I've paid it down to $12K, so I DON'T think I'm making bad financial decisions. ;) But I've also had sh*t go wrong, and having a slightly lower note helps on the odd months where I may have to output more $ than I like.

Thanks. That's exactly the kind of info I was looking for. Was that a higher trim level or a lower one?

Before i bought my first one in December, I did some research and for me the bottom line is that if you are paying cash with no other incentives that 12% off sticker should be your minimum target. Years and years ago I remember that same 16% mentioned above as leaving zero meat on the bone for imports.

But of course trim level has to play in negotiations. For example the TSS package here in Texas is $4995. That is for upgraded wheels, tires, black badges and tube steps, and bed decal. No doubt that is marked up at least 50% above what you could pay to do it yourself and have an extra set of wheels/tires to sell! And let's not get started on Nitrogen in the tires or trying to compare Toyota discounts to the domestic offers.

BUT, and this is a big BUT...today is not one or two years ago, or even 6 months ago. In the words of Bob Dylan, The Times They Are-A-Changin'.
