The job market and opportunity are why I left when I did. I’m coming back because of some of the same reasons others have stated...parents/relatives aging and needing help. I’m fortunate enough to have landed a great job in Solon, but that’s only because I left the area and got even more valuable experience elsewhere. I honestly have no intention of staying forever.

Yeah bro I don’t like typing into google to understand what you’re saying so unless you’re tying to call into a big company I’m not interested in hitting 1 for English and 2 for Spanish for an Internet forum.

Lived in Lakewood near Cleveland and currently live close to Columbus. You couldn’t pay me to live in NEO again after being here.

I concur. (That means “agree” so nobody has to Google it.)

Akron to Streetsboro isn’t bad - might look towards Pennisula area as well - country and little cheaper - but good access and schools.

To Cleveland - depends on what part of town. Far East - not bad - but I’d also look at Lake County - West Side would be a pain in my opinion from Streetsboro - but plenty of affordable options in West with good access Lorain/Medina Counties

Streetsboro itself is nice - grown a lot since I left in 2005 I’m sure. Always been a kind of “transient” area with 80 right there - half locals from Aurora/Twinsburg priced out of their housing market or Akron/Cleveland residents getting out of city - other half new to NE Ohio from elsewhere.

And FYI - just left Columbus last year - nice but traffic is a pain at times in parts of the North side and 71 on the South.

Cincinnati I regularly visited for work - it’s ok

55 y.o. native Ohioan here. Relocated to Az and I'll never return to live there. The answer to your question is somewhat complex and a couple of the posters have given you some insight as to the nature of the problem, so I won't rehash that here. You have to understand that the Ohio economy is still largely agrarian and its population is aging. That's probably not going to change anytime soon. Living there is like stepping back in time is the best way I can describe it. Not saying there's anything wrong with that but you have to be prepared for the trade-offs that come with living there. Since you're in nursing you may be fine but I would strongly encourage you to reconsider somewhere more pleasant and where you will get more in return for your taxes. Maybe Tenn or Fla or Tx. It all depends on what you value though. Have a Plan B just in case you discover it's not the place for you. Best to you.

Edit: Ideally I would recommend visiting and taking a whirlwind driving tour through the state to see and judge for yourself before committing.

You're just a bundle of sunshine. No wonder you can't find friends.

Dollars to donuts this is the same thing you say in person, which is exactly why you're miserable.

Ohio is pretty solid if you've lived anywhere else in the country, or the world. Population growth has slowed in the last decade, but isn't declining. 2020 census says up about 2.4%. Slower than the rest of the country, but not declining. What is declining is manuf jobs and legacy 'rust belt' type work. Hospitality, white collar, medical is growing. Engineers down in Columbus and Cincinnati command some pretty great salaries - especially right now. The market is absolutely red hot. Aging population means high demand for medical infrastructure - with some of the best hospitals in the country down in Cincinnati.

Lower cost of living/high standard of living, low crime, easy access to highways (and easy to avoid idiots on the road), make it an easy sell. Lots of the things that "suck" - like bad drivers, bad roads, grumpy people, whatever - is literally common across the US. Try driving in Michigan, NJ, Mississippi or any others and you see the exact same stupid things (though NJ takes the cake with jughandles).

Don't let negative nancy sway you one direction or the other. Take a visit, spend a few days touring the bigger cities, and see what you think.

Come on down to Central Kentucky.
Work in Lexington and live in a surrounding county.
There are tons of nursing opportunities here!
University of Kentucky and Baptist Health Lexington are your best bets.

St. Joseph sees lots of turn over for some reason.
I lived in Cincinnati, Ohio for 21 years and came down here for work. So much better than Ohio.
Traffic is not bad, cost of living is fairly low, housing prices are way up right now (but that goes for everywhere).

Ohio overall is a good mix - unless you want beaches and 300 days a year of sun…I’m sure you can find it in Ohio (to a degree).

Comparing parts of say nicer end of Columbus to Toledo or Youngstown is just pointless. California has ghettos too - as does about 85% of Florida. Every place has nicer areas and not so nice parts.
