When I get in my truck and start the ignition and it tells me to "please wait installing windows updates, do not reboot your truck", that will be a different story...

Just so long as I don't get pop-up windows in my windshield while driving.

I realize I might get some flame since this is my first post, but don't really care.

When I pay for a 2020 1794 with remote start...it should work. I think I should have the right to "get worked up about it" when it doesn't. I think I paid for that right. I have had all kinds of crazy glitches. It all worked fine until my "trial" ended. My trial apps never worked in the first place no matter what I did. I called and called to get it resolved, but they (Toyota) could not fix it. I figured it was just a bad app and didn't care since my key fob worked to remote start the truck just fine. It worked EVERY time; no issues whatsoever. Then, a couple of weeks ago, when my trial ended I assume, I tried again due to my key fob not working suddenly. They admitted two things. The app should have NOTHING to do with my remote start working with from the FOB. Secondly, they had my VIN assigned to another user in the system which is why the app never worked. I told them I should get another year of free "trial" for the apps; they agreed to only 6 months.

I never gave 2 shakes about the app. I don't like those things anyway, I like things to be simple which I why I bought a Toyota, and I was never going to pay for it. However the dealer said the remote start with the FOB would be active for 10 years regardless if I paid for the app or not. BS.

So, now they reconnected me to the app(s) for a trial of 6 months. The app will remotely start my truck. SOMETIMES the remote key fob will start my truck. When it doesn't work, I have to open my app (which I have set to "Keep me logged in" and does not), log in again, THEN my FOB will start my truck. At that point, I might as well use the app to start the truck remotely. This is TOTAL BS for what I paid for this truck. I love the truck otherwise, but this is something that should not be occurring with a Toyota product, especially a top tier model.

This pisses me off to no end and I'll be "that guy". Toyota can't even truly diagnose the problem or fix it. I am close to retirement and this was my first high-end, top-of-the-line model, splurge, gift-to-me-for-once dream truck after years and years of driving junk and toiling in a thankless job. I researched to no end before I spent my hard earned bucks and fretted over making the wrong financial decision for 2 years and finally granted Toyota the privilege of taking my money. It should be perfect. Every single thing on that window sticker should be there. Just like the damn transmission cooler.

So, update to my last (first) post / rant. The dealer that I purchased the truck from called me a couple of days ago to remind me that I still have the 2 years of maintenance / care and wondered if I wanted to schedule an appointment because they noticed that I have never used it. I politely told the nice lady that, no, I appreciated her checking but I actually like performing my own vehicle maintenance if possible. She chuckled and said though that is pretty rare these days, she completely understood because those who do are very insistent about it. I said, "but by the way and since you called, I am having a problem with the truck and I would like to talk to someone in service about it". She hooked me right up with a fella and I explained the entire issues. He said, "well, I've not heard this one before, but if it is 19's and above, I bet we will start and I want to look into this". He actually kept his word and called me back about 3 hours later and said that there really should be no connection between the app and the mechanical remote start EVER; even past 10 years. He found it very perplexing that it makes me re-log into the app for the FOB to be able to remote start the truck, which makes him think there is a computer issue and communication to the FOBs. He said he has a guy that specializes in these kinds of things and wanted me to bring the truck in to him specifically and see if he could perform a software update and research it some more. Said he had been in contact with Toyota Corporate and that there seems to be something to this, but they are being somewhat stand-offish about it. I take it in next Friday. I'll repost here to let those who are interested know what I find out and if it has fixed anything for the time being.

To the upset ones in this thread, my wife has a 2019 X3 and it seems like everything in that car is subscription based. BMW even boasts that future vehicle's features will be almost entirely subscription based.

Sorry to hear of your troubles. I'd be frustrated as well. You may have already tried this... but have you tried deleting the app from your phone and then reinstalling it? I can't explain why this would help, but it has worked for me with other balky apps. Somebody explained it to me that when phone OS are updated, it can cause some apps to suddenly misbehave.

This whole movement towards subscription services making its way into vehicles is disturbing.

Yep. They will give you all of the features for a year and then turn them off.

Thanks for the suggestion; sometimes I've had that work too with other apps. But yes, I have tried that multiple times. I have also tried it with IOS and Android platforms. This also bolsters their statement that the app and service should have nothing to do with the FOB communicating with the truck or its remote start.

On the 2020 remote start thread people are saying that toyota has found a solution and their fobs are working again.

I have a 2020 Platinum. I let the remote connect app expire just for this very thread. Mine expired 2 months ago. My key FOB has worked every day since and the app no longer does. Ive verified it numerous times over the last 50+ days. Ill update if it ever stops. Going to give it until August 1 and then renew my subscription as i kiss app start. However I want it to be certain the FOB works without the app.
