    Rear view mirror camera

This thing is so awesome and would highly recommend, especially if you have a camper shell. The camera is mounted inside the frame of my rear access door. Cool features about the mirror unit are that it has gps capability for monitoring speed (I don't use it though), parking monitor so it will start recording if someone hits your car (needs to be hard wired so you're not draining the battery via cig lighter socket), accident recording via g force monitor (parking monitor works same way), and more. I leave it on recording while driving anyway, and it does record for both front and rear cameras. Don't worry about the bad angle currently showing for the reverse camera, it needs adjusting. The rear camera field of view is bigger than what the mirror can show, but you can adjust this by moving it up and down via swiping with your finger on the mirror itself. So basically I can make it show straight behind me like what you would normally see out of a regular rear view mirror, as well as adjust it to look much closer and down like some of you would see from the reverse camera in the factory tailgate handle reverse cam.

NOTE: The kit does come w/ wiring for the camera but I needed to order an extension cable for it. I also got the hardwire kit that was part of the free gifts you could choose from after purchasing the mirror. Additionally, the stock mirror is too wide for the Toguard unit to mount to, I went to autozone and picked up the smallest replacement rear view mirror they had for about $14.

Thank you, I'm so stoked on how it turned out. Always find myself looking back at it after parking haha, here's some pics of it when I took it on some dirt roads to test the suspension.

Hi pyrite808. Nice Build. I just ordered the same front bumper. Regarding the rear trailer plug for the rear bumper, Hopkins and Pollak make the connector that snaps into the bumper opening. The plug snaps into the connector on one end and the other connects to your Tundra connectors. I have the multi-plug connector and harness for a 4runner that can be easily swapped to your Tundra. Let me know if you are interested. IMG_4489.jpg IMG_4490.jpg IMG_4491.jpg IMG_4492.jpg IMG_4493.jpg

I was on the fence with the Falcons but was told to not lift the rear as the shocks are not designed for it, has that changed?

Thank you, this is the kind of help from the tundra community I was looking for! So just to confirm, is this the only part that I need to make it work?

    https://www.amazon.com/Hopkins-4097...ins+pollak+trailer+plug&qid=1623009607&sr=8-7

I appreciate you offering to sell it to me but I think I'll go w/ Amazon since I'm moving soon and prime would guarantee I'd get it before my move out date on the 18th.

I have it listed in my build specs, it's the ARE MX w/ rear access door hatch.

I don't really think that's true, when I first researched these shocks there are plenty of members running various CB Shackles, as well as @Red_Leg who is running both CB +1 shackles and OME Dakar leafs. He advised that the OME shocks are the same length compressed and extended as Falcons.

Hi pyrite808, The Amazon line you provided is just the connector for the bumper. You will also need to connector pigtail (harness) below to complete the installation. Then you would have to splice into your old tow Wiring harness connector to completed the install.

    https://www.amazon.com/Hopkins-4098...ee41364dde6&pd_rd_wg=S8aRM&pd_rd_i=B005Q87T6E

The link below has both the connector and pigtail are included.
    https://www.amazon.com/Hopkins-4114...dp/B00YJGC6C6/ref=psdc_15737351_t3_B001NYYREC

It comes with the wiring diagram.

Ah thank you for clarifying, I'll probably have to tackle this project once we finish our move, I have enough wiring and plumbing on my plate as it is w/ my rear bed system and aux battery. Looking at your original post, the 4runner plugs are not the same as my tundra (reference post 43/44 of this thread) so it will require me to do some splicing regardless if I went with Amazon or yours. Thanks for the help, this will be much cheaper than that $240+ kit from Toyota.

This is probably my favorite 2nd gen. Looks amazing. Didn't think the raptor style bumper could look that good.

I dig it. This is an awesome build!

Did I miss a thread on doing the headlight conversion? That along with the tail lights, wheels and the painted mirror caps makes the truck look MUCH newer. Very nice.

Any updates on how well your front bumper is holding up to that winch? I just installed the same bumper, and Im wondering how high to set my expectations

I have the same front bumper and love it. I have a Mile Marker 12K Winch installed on mine. I live in Tucson so very dry and no issues with rust. I have used the winch twice and it works great. The only issue I have is the limited access to the winch behind the bumper so it limits winch line management. I am using a wireless controller so that helps.

Thanks for all the wonderful compliments guys, I'm still surprised myself how far it's come since day one and I find myself not only doing a double but a triple take after parking

I still need to update you all on the rear bed setup, we moved to Tennessee a few months ago and settling in here/new job etc has taken my attention (and funds) away from updating this thread and working on the truck. TBH it really takes some discipline to ignore the forums and not get caught up in all the mods I want to do, I have a problem with expensive hobbies...

Overall the truck's in a good spot but there are always other things I'd like to add/change in the future to make it even better. We moved to Tennessee to get some land and go offgrid/homestead so this thread may be a bit stagnant until then. I will say it did handle the drive from Colorado like a dream, camping out in the back was really nice for the gf, our pets, and I.

Here are some pics from the trip

Thank you man I love it, IMHO it looks better than the gen 2.5 and 3s...here are the links for the headlights AND grill conversion.

The Kendas are holding up really well, maybe a little louder than what other people choose for 35s. I don't have a lot to compare to size-wise, but on my old tacomas/4runners I have had BFG KOs 31s, Toyo M/T open country 33s(awful), Nitto Trail Grapplers 33s, Cooper S/T maxx 33s. I thought I liked the Coopers a lot but for me Kenda's are far superior in terms of rubber composition, weight, tread, price, ride quality etc etc - they are my favorite tires so far and I'm really surprised more people don't run them, putting it simply the R/T profile is just what they say it is- aggressive enough to have m/t traction but provide almost the same benefits as a/t for ride quality/efficiency.

Bumpers holding up well but I have yet to test the winch out on it - here's a video that set my doubts to rest about Ebay quality bumpers and harbor freight winches. (I would have gone harbor freight for the winch but I really don't think it would fit this bumper)

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0RKW89K_HwM

In the future do plan on eventually taking it all apart, sanding it down, replacing hardware, and going over the welds on both bumpers (or maybe even designing my own with higher clearance) when I have the tools and time to do so but even now I wouldn't hesitate to utilize the winch if the situation arose. Some parts of my build I did out of a lack of time/money since it is my 'bug out' vehicle and I had to prioritize certain things over others, especially before moving - ie quality lift/tires/wheels/camper/bed setup over bumper quality..

I had shrockworks and perkins bumpers on my 4runner which together ran over $2500, I figured why not give these a try, under $1000 for both was really hard to beat and I absolutely hated the chrome, plus I wanted a winch and recovery points. I didn't cheap out on sliders or skids and the other thing to consider is an although arb or shrockworks may offer better protection, you'll still likely have to replace it in the event of a wreck, they are not indestructible and if I figured if I could get the same functionality for a 1/3 of the price why not.

Glad to hear the bumper is holding up! I also agree on limited access to the winch itself it's really tight, however, I did relocate the winch controller to be tucked up behind/within the bumper near the passenger fog lights, so I still can easily plug in my wired winch controller and finesse it up and through the passenger window and easily use it while in the driver's seat.

Where in TN? Some decent spots to hit up.

Look up Nemo tunnel. It's a super easy trail to get to the tunnel and is absolutely worth the drive.

We're in Smyrna, would love to hear about more spots! On the way here we stopped at the Mark Twain National Forest as well as the Land Between the Lakes but haven't really had a chance to venture out again with gf and I on different schedules.

Nemo Tunnel looks pretty cool, is it a day trail kind of thing or is there camping there as well?

    paging @FirstGenVol

I think there is some camping in the area, but not right at the tunnel. Eric is more over toward Knox, I think, and can give you a good idea of where to go. He likes using his truck and isn't afraid to travel :).

There is a campground right by the Tunnel but I don't think it was overly private. It is scenic though. Definitely a pretty area.

For exploring and camping our favorite area is near Tellico Plains. The Cherohla Skyway is where we go to play in the snow and the FS roads have water crossings which can be fun.

I took this pic a few weeks ago up there. I'm not as familiar with Smyrna or middle TN but we also love going to Big South Fork for outdoor activities.

Nice rig and thanks for the recommendations, we have heard good things about big south fork it is on our list. Cherohla Skyway looks really nice, is there a specific entrance/mile marker that you go to or are there several FS roads that you can pick from? I do really like that area, it was the first part of the state that we visited when we came to visit last year sadly we had a rental at the time so couldn't explore as much as we wanted.
