I'm in the market for a 16ft travel trailer, overall length 21.5ft. For those living in California, what is the process for registering a trailer? Once purchasing the trailer and paying taxes up front...am I supposed to pay taxes on it again once registering it to the DMV?

New purchase? You’ll pay taxes and registration up front, then annual registration after that

My car trailer and cargo trailer are $10. I think once you hit 3000 pounds it must registered yearly like anything else. Verify weight but this might help your decision on which one to buy.

I'm sure you know at this point everyone else is looking too.

Ahh ok...thanks for clearing that up..i dealt with a different situation when i moved back from TX to CA and thought this is something CA would do to me again....:(

DMV wanted over $5k to transfer my TX registered Tundra...I initially did not transfer it at first since Military is exempt and can keep out-of-state registration. So when my TX registration expired, i tried to register it and they wanted CA state taxes and included penalty fees for each year i did not have it transfered.

I ended up trading it in to avoid that...
