Mobil 1 has rebates on their website. I got two 5quart jugs Mobil1 5w30 extended performance from Walmart for $49. Went on-line and got $30 rebate. So for $19 for 10 quarts of what should be Mobil best oil. If you can find a better deal anywhere buy it.

I pulling my boat to FLA and after many useless hours of research decided to switch the 0w20 out for the 5W30. I will be going 75mph so probably not necessary but hey for $19 who cares...

Quick summary of reasons on the change to 5w30?
Heat and towing? More mpg? - just curious

Yes, reduced tranny temps by 15% and increase mpg by 2-3 mpg.

I live in Houston, Texas where the temp between April and November is usually 90F plus. I pull my 5Klb boat at 70-75mph in drive. My concern (useless as what do I know) is the load at 70mph and 2K rpm is pretty high on oil since rpm is so low but load is heavy. If I was running 2500 rpm's by being in S5 then I would have more oil pressure. Oil pressure is directly related to rpms. I keep my RPM up by going fast instead of holding in a lower gear so I feel better with the marginally heavier oil.

My tranny temps are reduced by a solid 20-25% as I installed a cooler. MPG I found one study that said 0w20 vs 5w30 was a .3% mpg gain. So that is nothing. I do notice when I let the truck sit for weeks at a time it rattles on start-up. Interesting to see if that still happens with the marginally heavier oil. I sure the rattle is the oil draining from the lifters (2021 with 4k miles).

I found with a Roush 427R engine each jump in viscosity from 10w30 to 10w40 to 20w50 resulted in a 5psig in oil pressure BUT resulted in a 5-7F increase in oil temp. 20w50 was a horrific lubricant for day to day driving. I had to adjust the valves and run the engine with valve cover off. The 20w50 just flowed over the rocker arms like a paste, the 10w30 poured through them line water. Thats what you want the oil penetrating every crevice not covering it. I chased an oil pressure problem for months, turned out wrong Relief valve spring in oil pump....

Now you got me going. I also found once everything stabilized oil temp was about 3-5F hotter then coolant temp at steady state driving.
